Who you are

To advance our mission and deepen our impact, we're hiring a senior producer, reporting to the director of content development. You're a video-forward podcast producer with demonstrated show-running experience and a strong storytelling instinct. You have a media background and can lead a podcast from pitch to publish — and just as easily produce a polished piece of standalone video content.

You have a detailed understanding of the podcast and video ecosystem, direct experience producing content that's natively distributed for both video and audio, and you know how to use data to shape show direction and grow an audience.

A creative and strategic leader, you're highly organized and comfortable managing multiple projects and team members at once.

You're a self-starter who excels at working both independently and collaboratively. You have a keen eye for detail and hold yourself to a high standard for quality and brand consistency.

This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of three (3) days a week in our NYC office, with a focus on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

What you'll do

Lead production across multiple shows & productions

  • Serve as the lead producer for video-forward podcasts within the Understood Podcast Network, while also developing and producing standalone, one-off content projects with a particular focus on YouTube.
  • Drive episode production from concept to final delivery for assigned episodes, across audio and video formats.
  • Direct all stages of production, including story development, advanced research, guest booking, scripting, and recording direction.
  • Guide post-production, including edits, revisions, pickups, and final delivery.

Oversee content strategy and quality

  • Apply editorial and visual guidelines consistently across assigned episodes and projects, flagging opportunities to the Director of Content Development.
  • Contribute episode ideas and pitches, and support hosts and talent during recording and production.
  • Enhance overall show quality through strong editorial choices.
  • Repackage and curate content for YouTube, web, social, email, and other platforms.

Apply data to episode-level decisions

  • Use audience data and platform performance to inform decisions on assigned episodes and projects.
  • Identify opportunities to grow audience engagement across audio and video platforms.
  • Develop ideas informed by listener and viewer behavior, especially for YouTube.

Improve processes and champion innovation

  • Identify and flag workflow improvements within assigned production work, and pilot new tools or techniques as directed."
  • Leverage AI tools where appropriate for scripting, editing, insights, and content repackaging.
  • Stay informed on emerging podcast and video production trends and integrate best practices.

Manage and develop producers

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, feedback, and mentorship to other staff and freelance producers.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and support professional growth.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure smooth workflows and clear communication.

Minimum qualifications

In this role, you bring applied expertise and the ability to own components of a project or workstream end-to-end. You work with cross-functional partners, manage project-level milestones and risk, and contribute to budget planning.

We don't expect a perfect match across every category. What matters is relevant experience, genuine interest in the work, and a mindset for growth
