About the role As the Senior Product & Delivery Lead , you will play a critical role in maintaining momentum across VMIA's priority product and underwriting initiatives during a parental leave backfill. Working within the Product Centre in the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions (RICS) division, you will lead the delivery of key product initiatives, strengthen underwriting capability, and embed effective ways of working that support long-term business success. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines strategic thinking with execution. You'll collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, coach colleagues, and deliver practical solutions that enhance product performance, improve operational efficiency, and support better outcomes for VMIA's clients. Key responsibilities Lead the delivery of product collateral, product training, and underwriting resources across VMIA's insurance products. Develop and enhance underwriting tools, guidelines, templates, frameworks, and rating calculators, including coordinating required system changes. Support the design and delivery of innovative insurance products and client solutions in partnership with Product Centre and Sector Practice teams. Provide expert advice on complex product and underwriting matters. Establish and embed scalable, repeatable processes that improve consistency, knowledge sharing, and operational efficiency. Coach and mentor colleagues to strengthen product knowledge, underwriting capability, and decision-making. Ensure effective knowledge transfer to build sustainable capability across the business. Maintain continuity of strategic and operational initiatives during the parental leave coverage period. Promote strong governance, risk management, compliance, and business continuity practices. Foster a safe, collaborative, and high-performing team culture through coaching, feedback, and leadership. Who you work with You'll work closely with the Head of Product Centre and collaborate across the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions (RICS) division, including Practice Leaders, the Chief Insurance Officer and leadership team, Digital, Insights & Analytics, Actuarial, and Project Delivery teams. You'll also build strong relationships with VMIA clients, insurance and reinsurance brokers, and external consulting partners. What we are looking for We're looking for an experienced insurance professional who combines deep product and underwriting expertise with strong delivery capability. You are comfortable navigating complex stakeholder environments, influencing without formal authority, and balancing strategic thinking with practical execution. You'll bring: Extensive experience leading insurance product, underwriting, or broking initiatives. Strong knowledge of underwriting frameworks, product development, pricing, and insurance solutions. A proven ability to deliver complex projects and drive outcomes through collaboration. Excellent coaching, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to simplify processes and build lasting capability. A strong commitment to governance, risk management, and delivering high-quality client outcomes. Qualifications Tertiary qualification in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Studies, or a related discipline. Minimum 10 years' experience in insurance, underwriting, product management, strategic product, or broking roles. Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives and delivering outcomes in complex environments. Certified member of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) or an equivalent professional body. Experience designing underwriting or product frameworks is highly regarded. Experience working with public sector clients or within the Victorian Government environment is desirable.
