Senior Product Designer

Senior Digital Product Designer | Remote-first, ~2 days/month onsite | £75,000 + benefits

We're hiring on behalf of a major UK banking group for a 12-month FTC with genuine potential to extend or convert to a permanent role. This role sits within a small, tight-knit design practice working dotted-line into a wider Human-Centred Design team, at a moment where the workstream is genuinely ambiguous and there's real ownership on the table for the right person.

The role

You'll operate as a sole designer within your workstream, working directly with product owners, engineers and subject matter experts rather than alongside other designers day to day. Dedicated researchers exist, but only in a consulting capacity, so a defining part of this role is owning your own tactical UX research end to end: planning, running and synthesising user testing and desktop research yourself, then feeding findings straight into your design decisions.

This is a genuinely ambiguous, fast-moving environment. You'll be picking up new projects independently and proactively bringing your workstream into the wider design team, rather than waiting to be told what's next. Process matters here: the team wants to see your thinking from low-fidelity exploration through to shipped, high-fidelity UI, with case studies that clearly link your process to specific aims, metrics and artifacts, not just how things turned out.

What you'll be doing

• Own end-to-end product design across mid-size and increasingly complex projects, from discovery through delivery
• Plan, run and synthesise your own user research and usability testing, with no dedicated researcher on this stream
• Partner directly with product owners, engineers and subject matter experts to translate ambiguous briefs into shippable, validated design decisions
• Contribute to and evolve shared design standards and guidelines as your workstream scales
• Coach and give feedback to colleagues, supporting the wider maturity of the design practice

What we're looking for

• Senior product designer with genuine end-to-end ownership, from discovery through UX exploration to UI delivery
• Comfortable running your own research without a dedicated researcher: usability testing, moderated and unmoderated sessions, desktop research, and turning findings into design decisions independently
• Experience defining and leading design work at pace within agile delivery, in ambiguous or fast-moving environments
• A portfolio that shows real process, not just outcomes, with clear aims, metrics and artifacts tied to specific case studies
• Experience in regulated, complex or financial services environments is a strong plus
