Reporting to the Director of Product Design, the Product Designer designs end-to-end experiences across GS1 Canada’s ecosystem of digital products. You’ll work across the product development lifecycle, contributing from problem definition and discovery through design, validation, delivery, and measurement.
You’ll partner closely with Product Management, IMS Leads, Engineering, Business Analysis, and industry stakeholders, working in alignment with GS1 Canada’s product development lifecycle standard. You’ll bring strong product design craft, curiosity, and customer focus to understanding problems, exploring solutions, and using evidence to inform design decisions.

- Simplify complex, data-heavy enterprise workflows into intuitive experiences.
- Balance customer needs, business objectives, accessibility, and technical constraints.
- Collaborate with Engineering through implementation to confirm designs ship as intended.

- Use analytics, customer feedback, and behavioural data to measure design efficacy and find opportunities.

Design Systems and Accessibility
- Contribute reusable patterns, component definitions, documentation, and design tokens to GS1 Canada’s design system, and reduce drift between design and code.
- Deliver designs that meet AODA requirements and WCAG 2.2 Level AA, building accessibility in rather than remediating late.
- Partner with Engineering to confirm accessibility requirements survive implementation.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Define and refine work items (Features, Product Backlog Items, User Stories) with product and engineering partners.
- Facilitate workshops, ideation sessions, and journey mapping.
- Present design rationale to leadership and external industry stakeholders, framed with the journey, personas, and evidence behind the decisions.
- Contribute to design critique, and advance the Product Design Community of Practice.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- •5+ years designing digital products in agile, cross-functional teams, with demonstrated end-to-end ownership from discovery through delivery.
- Portfolio demonstrating approach to problem solving, design process, and excellence in interaction and visual design
- Experience designing complex enterprise or SaaS applications, particularly data-heavy workflows.
- Strong interaction design, information architecture, and visual design capability.

- Systems thinking, with the ability to reduce complexity rather than accommodate it.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system.
- Working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, AODA, and inclusive design practice.
- Proficiency with Figma and FigJam; familiarity with Storybook, Azure DevOps or Jira, and AI-assisted design tooling.
- Working understanding of HTML and CSS, sufficient to collaborate credibly with front-end developers.
- Strong facilitation, communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
