Fortinet is seeking a senior Product Quality control specialist to oversee and elevate the hardware and mechanical integrity of our product portfolio, including FortiExtender, FortiSwitch, FortiFone, and FortiCamera. In this role, you will collaborate directly with external JDM/ODM partners to intercept design vulnerabilities, review mass production workflows, and ensure exceptional product reliability across both standard and ruggedized industry. Key Responsibility Design & Quality Review: Evaluate schematic designs and PCB layouts from ODM/JDM partners; proactively identify and resolve potential design flaws to mitigate quality risks.. Mechanical & Industrial Design Architecture: Review JDM partners’ 3D mechanical structure and industrial housing designs. Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize mechanical reliability, make critical structural decisions, and grant final mechanical design approvals. BOM Management: Scrutinize JDM/ODM partners’ electrical, electronic and mechanical Bills of Materials (BOM) – with a strict focus on critical components – to ensure compliance with product lifespans and operational environment requirement. Validation & Testing Oversight: Partner with JDM/ODM vendors to establish comprehensive hardware and mechanical test schemes. Define test procedures, establish test parameters, and audit test reports to guarantee strict quality control, particularly for mass production. Production & Assembly Optimization: Consult with JDM/ODM engineering/production teams on assembly line planning to maximize manufacturing efficiency during mass production phases. Regulatory & Compliance: Coordinate with JDM/ODM engineering/production teams and Fortinet’s internal regulatory division to guide new products through complex regulatory certification processes and secure necessary compliance documentation. Lifecycle Documentation: Manage and maintain meticulous hardware and mechanical design documentation across every gate of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, strictly adhering to Fortinet’s project management frameworks. Competitive Intelligence: Maintain an up-to-date, comprehensive knowledge of competitor product designs and emerging technological trends to drive continuous improvement in product quality and reliability. Qualifications & Core Competencies Technical Experience: 10+ year direct hardware or mechanical design experience across the full product lifecycle (concept to mass production). Proven expertise in high-reliability industrial design for 5G/LTE routers, network switches, IP phones and IP cameras is highly desirable. Project Management: 3+ year of experience of managing new product development, with a documented focus on product reliability and cross-functional execution. Bachelor degree in Mechatronics, EE or ME, master degree or higher is preferred. Domain Expertise: Profound knowledge on reliable hardware and mechanical engineering principles within standard and ruggedized industrial environments, Familiarity with synchronized hardware and mechanical co-design is a distinct asset. Vendor Governance: Proven professional capacity to audit external JDM/ODM designs, provide authoritative technical recommendations, and make definitive decisions on architecture and reliability. Manufacturing Acumen: Deep Familiarity with factory assembly processes, mass production quality testing, and the definition of production-line test criteria. Technical Toolset: Professional proficiency in EDA software, SolidWorks, and engineering simulation/modeling tools. Leadership & Communication: Exceptional team player capable of orchestrating JDM/ODM engineering resources and aligning internal Fortinet teams to meet aggressive product launch schedules. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering (EE) or Mechanical Engineering; a Master’s degree or higher is strongly preferred. Language Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication and coordination skills in English. Clear, precise professional proficiency in Mandarin is an asset. The Canada base salary range for this full-time position is expected to be between $86,000 - $105,000 annually. Wage ranges are based on various factors including the labour market, job type, and job level. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s subject knowledge, skill level, qualifications, and experience.
