THE JOB: Senior Programmer Analyst (24 Month Contract)
The starting salary range falls within the minimum to mid-point of the salary range.
Starting Salary Range: $80,066 - $100,083
Reporting to the Manager, Business Applications, the Senior Programmer Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and modernizing enterprise business applications, integrations, and supporting technical solutions across Doctors of BC.
The role provides senior-level application development expertise while supporting the organization's transition from legacy platforms, such as those built on .NET and Progress OpenEdge, to modern cloud-based ERP, CRM and data platforms.
The Senior Programmer Analyst maintains business continuity for existing applications while progressively migrating business processes, data and functionality to sustainable enterprise solutions. The position works closely with business stakeholders, the Technical Solutions Engineer, Business Applications Specialist, application teams, Data Management and external vendors.
Technical skills & responsibilities:
- Design, develop, maintain and enhance enterprise applications, services, integrations and databases.
- Maintain and support Progress/OpenEdge applications while progressively reducing organizational dependency on the legacy platform.
- Analyze existing application functionality, code, business rules, integrations and data structures to support modernization and migration initiatives.
- Design and execute migrations of business processes, data and functionality from legacy systems to modern platforms such as Salesforce, NetSuite, Snowflake and other enterprise solutions.
- Develop and maintain APIs, integration services, automation, and data-processing solutions that connect enterprise applications.
- Perform data extraction, transformation, migration, validation and reconciliation activities.
- Develop technical solutions using appropriate modern development, API, database and integration patterns.
- Troubleshoot complex application, database and integration issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Develop sustainable solutions that address underlying technical problems rather than repeated workarounds.
- Collaborate with the Technical Solutions Engineer and Business Applications Specialist on application, integration and modernization designs.
- Work with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand existing business rules and translate them into requirements for replacement solutions.
- Produce and maintain technical designs, application documentation, interface specifications, data models, code documentation and operational support procedures.
- Participate throughout the SDLC, including requirements, technical design, development, code review, testing, deployment and production support.
- Support appropriate development, source-control, environment-management and release-management practices.
- Collaborate with Data Management on data migrations and integrations between operational applications and enterprise data platforms.
- Work with external vendors and implementation partners on technical design, development, integration and migration activities.
- Mentor other technical resources and contribute to knowledge transfer and development standards across the Business Applications team.
- Identify opportunities to replace custom legacy functionality with reusable and supportable enterprise capabilities.

WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of senior application development experience in complex enterprise environments.
- Strong programming and software-development capabilities.
- Strong experience with relational databases, SQL, data modelling and data integration.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, web services and modern integration patterns.
- Experience across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment and production support.
- Experience in modernizing, integrating or migrating legacy enterprise applications.
- Ability to understand complex existing code, databases and business rules and translate them into modern solutions.
- Experience with source control, release management and development environment management.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis capabilities.
- Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary technical and business teams.
Assets
- Experience with Progress OpenEdge ABL/4GL and OpenEdge Database.
- Experience with C#, .NET/.NET Core or comparable modern enterprise development technologies.
- Experience migrating applications or data from Progress OpenEdge or similar legacy platforms.
- Experience with Salesforce, NetSuite or other enterprise CRM/ERP platforms.
- Experience integrating applications with Snowflake or other cloud data platforms.
- Experience with ETL/ELT, Change Data Capture (CDC) or enterprise data-migration technologies.
- Experience with PowerShell or comparable automation/scripting technologies.
- Experience developing or supporting applications used for benefits, insurance, membership administration or financial processing.
- Experience working with third-party implementation partners and technology vendors.
