Show job description

Bancroft Construction Services (BCS) is building a talent pipeline for upcoming Construction Project Manager needs, anticipated in the first and second quarters. This posting is intended to identify and engage qualified professionals who are interested in joining BCS as project demand increases.

About the Job

Bancroft Construction Services provides construction management, environmental compliance, and restoration services for public and private infrastructure projects throughout Southern California. Our team works closely with engineers, environmental professionals, contractors, and regulatory agencies to deliver high-quality projects that meet technical, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

We are seeking a hands-on Project Manager with experience in land development and environmental restoration who can take ownership of construction projects from pursuit and estimating through execution and closeout. This role is well suited to someone with experience in a smaller firm or entrepreneurial environment who is equally comfortable developing client relationships, leading field operations, and creating practical processes where none exist.

This is a hybrid position that combines office-based work with regular field presence and travel to active project sites throughout the Southern California region.

Position Summary

The Project Manager – Construction will lead land development, restoration, and infrastructure projects through the full project lifecycle, from opportunity pursuit, scoping, estimating, and proposals through pre-construction, field execution, and closeout. This role owns project outcomes, including client relationships, budgets, schedules, safety, and environmental compliance, while working directly with field teams, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.

This position requires an adaptable, resourceful leader who can work independently, make sound decisions in active construction environments, and establish efficient systems and workflows as projects evolve. Approximately 50% travel is required to support oversight and coordination across multiple project sites throughout Southern California.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own construction projects from initial pursuit, scoping, estimating, and proposal development through field execution and closeout, including land development, site improvements, and environmental restoration
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, scopes of work, resource allocation, and cost controls with accountability for project results
  • Coordinate pre-construction activities including permitting, contractor selection, subcontractor coordination, and project planning
  • Coordinate pursuit-to-project handoff and take direct responsibility for decisions across office, client, and field activities
  • Oversee construction activities through regular site visits to ensure compliance with design plans, specifications, safety requirements, and environmental permit conditions
  • Create and improve project workflows, documentation, and coordination processes when formal systems are not already in place
  • Build and maintain direct client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, engineers, inspectors, and regulatory agencies
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks or delays, and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Review contractor submittals, change orders, invoices, and progress reports
  • Ensure environmental compliance requirements are integrated into construction activities and schedules
  • Maintain an active field presence, lead site visits and progress meetings, and resolve issues directly with crews and project stakeholders
  • Prepare project documentation, reports, and closeout materials
  • Identify and pursue project opportunities, contribute to estimates and proposals, and support client development and repeat business
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction project management, land development, or environmental restoration projects, including direct responsibility for project delivery
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time to multiple project sites throughout Southern California

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a smaller construction firm, growing business, or entrepreneurial environment with end-to-end project ownership
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting and compliance requirements (CEQA, NEPA, CWA, CESA, FESA)
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams including engineers, biologists, inspectors, and contractors
  • Demonstrated ability to build practical processes, manage budgets and schedules, and adapt when established systems or resources are limited
  • Proficiency with project management software and construction documentation tools
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, PE, or CCM (preferred, not required)

Work Environment

  • This is a hybrid position involving both office-based work and field activities and may include:
  • Approximately 50% travel to active construction and restoration project sites throughout Southern California
  • Working around heavy equipment and active construction operations
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions and uneven terrain
  • Driving between multiple project sites on a regular basis
  • Candidates must be able to safely perform site visits and field coordination duties.

Compensation & Employment Status

  • Salary: $140-$160K
  • Employment Type: Full-Time / Hybrid
  • Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience
  • Benefits: Eligible for company benefits package
