ABOUT JSM
At JSM Group, we are a leading specialist infrastructure engineering company. We design and install the complex power networks, digital infrastructure and specialist systems a future-focused worldwide marketplace needs — from high-power grid connections to critical utilities, data centres to renewable energy.
Our full turnkey solution teams manage the full scope to help advise and deliver complex infrastructure projects at speed, on time and with reduced legislative, technical and commercial risk.
JSM is now growing its presence in Germany and across Europe, building on a stable and profitable UK parent company to establish a new German and European delivery organisation.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Our German and European business is entering an exciting phase of growth. The Portfolio Manager will work closely with senior leadership, Project Managers, Commercial and Finance teams, as well as colleagues across our UK and European operations.
You will play a key role in building the structure, governance and capabilities needed to support JSM's continued growth in Germany and the wider European market.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Portfolio Manager is responsible for the overall performance of JSM's German and European project portfolio. The role exists to bring governance, visibility and commercial discipline to a fast-growing portfolio, and to build the structure and capability the business needs as it scales.
Day to day, you will:
Set portfolio and resource priorities, milestones and performance measures, and report performance, risks and recommendations to the CEO Germany
Oversee delivery of multiple projects against programme, budget, quality, safety and contractual requirements
Challenge plans, forecasts and variances with Project Managers, and drive corrective action
Deliver and improve portfolio revenue, margin, cost, cash flow and forecast with Commercial and Finance
Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, and support contract and variation management
Build senior client relationships and act as the escalation point for major issues
Identify growth opportunities and contribute to bid and tender strategy
Lead and develop Project Managers, share lessons learned, and support the mobilisation of new projects
Participate directly in the current large construction project to build sector and market knowledge — potentially taking it over as it moves towards completion, if timing allows
ABOUT YOU
You'll do well here if you recognise yourself in this:
You combine strategic thinking with strong delivery and commercial focus
You'd rather build the structure, governance and processes a growing organisation needs than manage one that's already set
You build trusted relationships with senior clients and work confidently across German, UK and European teams
You work in a structured way under deadline pressure, and you write convincingly in both German and English
You spot gaps early and act on them before they affect delivery
You bring an operational, hands-on, entrepreneurial mindset, and you embrace JSM's values — integrity, respect, continuous improvement, accountability, diversity & inclusion and team spirit
EXPERIENCE
Essential
3+ years' experience in portfolio, programme or senior project management within infrastructure, construction, engineering, utilities, energy or a related sector
Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously
Strong commercial understanding: budgets, forecasting, margins, risk and contractual performance
Senior client and stakeholder relationship management
Experience leading project teams and influencing across functions
Project governance, risk and performance management
Excellent organisational, team-building and decision-making skills
German and English language skills, C1 or above
Desirable
High-voltage power infrastructure, substations, grid connections or civil engineering experience
A degree in engineering (MSc Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering)
Experience in data centre, renewable energy or electrical infrastructure projects
Civil engineering, major construction or EPC/turnkey delivery experience
Knowledge of the German energy or infrastructure market
PRINCE2, PMP or IPMA (Level B or equivalent) qualification
If you meet most but not all of the above, we'd still like to hear from you. We'll look at what you've delivered and what you're capable of, not just the list.
ENGINEERED TO BELONG
At JSM Group, we're not just shaping the future of utilities, we're raising the bar for what a great place to work looks like.
Our values aren't words on a wall. They drive every decision we make and every project we take on, pushing us to go further, do better, and leave a real mark on the industry.
We want people who are hungry to grow, ready to take on complex challenges, and excited to work alongside clients and partners who are changing the landscape of the utility sector across the UK, Europe and beyond.
In return, we give you the room to develop fast, the work to stretch you, and the platform to build a career that actually means something.
WHAT WE OFFER
In addition to an industry-competitive salary, this role offers:
The chance to shape your own processes, team and ways of working from the ground up, backed by a stable and profitable UK parent company
Genuine influence over JSM's long-term German and European growth strategy, with direct exposure to senior leadership
Hybrid working
Work on live data centre and renewable energy projects
A clear path to a leadership role — potentially Operations Director or Head of Delivery — within 2–3 years as the business grows
Funded training and development, including support towards IPMA or PMI certification
DIVERSITY, INCLUSION & EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
JSM Group is an equal opportunities employer. We're building teams that reflect the communities and clients we work for, and we believe better engineering comes from bringing different experience into the same room.
We're committed to making our recruitment process accessible. If you need an adjustment at any stage — to the application, the interview format or the assessment — tell us and we'll sort it. Every application is assessed on skills, experience and potential.
