Senior Project Manager – Property Projects.
We're looking for a passionate Senior Project Manager to join our Property Projects team at National Grid. In this role, you will lead the successful delivery of our property project portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality, while meeting agreed timescales and budget requirements.
As National Grid's lead project management representative, you will provide leadership to a team of Project Managers and Associates, working closely with our framework suppliers and key stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes. You will maintain effective project governance and control throughout the project lifecycle, collaborating with delivery teams and suppliers to ensure delivery plans remain achievable, on track, and optimised wherever possible to accelerate project completion.
This is a UK-wide role and will require regular travel across our operational sites. We encourage a hybrid approach to working and are happy to discuss any additional flexibility or adjustments that could help make this role work for you. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering projects that support the future of the UK's energy infrastructure.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and coordinate all National Grid activities from Development Handover (Gate C) through to final delivery.
- Ensure works are completed on time to support the Supplier in meeting contractual milestones.
- Maintain effective project control throughout the lifecycle, working closely with the project delivery team and supplier to ensure the delivery plan remains achievable, on track and optimised for early delivery where possible.
- Ensure all National Grid elements of the integrated delivery plan are delivered to the required standards of time and quality.
- Promote and embed a strong one-team culture across National Grid and the property projects team.
- Lead and support the project management team, providing direction, guidance, and development as a direct line manager.
- Prepare and provide accurate, timely project status reports to the central PMO team.
- Manage project risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation where required.
- Take responsibility for overall progress and resource utilisation, initiating corrective action where necessary.
- Support the development of Tactical Plans in partnership with zonal planning and non-load works.
- Work closely with Operations Managers and the LACE community to maintain a clear forecast of zonal scheme delivery, alongside clear communication on project progress and impacts to local teams.
What You’ll Have:
- Strong knowledge and understanding of substation work and/or property and construction works, including electrical, mechanical, civil and wider property engineering disciplines.
- Excellent project management capability, including the management of risk to deliver projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply requirements.
- Detailed understanding of the scheme development process.
- Knowledge of contract management, particularly in relation to fixed-price and target-cost contracts.
- Understanding of change management approaches and their practical application.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyse root causes, and develop and implement effective solutions.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of National Grid Safety Rules.
- Hold a recognised project management and health & safety qualification, such as PRINCE2, IOSH, or NEBOSH.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
What You'll Get:
£65,000 - £74,000 dependent on experience.
An annual performance incentive of up to 30% of your eligible earnings in a performance year.
As well as your base salary, Requirement Car and competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
