At Clarke Energy, our Senior Proposals Engineers play a critical role in transforming customer enquiries into compelling, commercially competitive and technically robust proposals. Working at the intersection of sales, engineering and project delivery, you'll help secure projects that support our customers' energy resilience, sustainability and operational goals.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineering professional who enjoys analysing customer requirements, developing tailored solutions and managing complex bids from enquiry through to contract award. You'll be part of a collaborative team where your technical expertise, commercial judgement and attention to detail will directly contribute to the continued success of the business.

What you'll be doing

Developing winning proposals

You'll take ownership of customer enquiries and tenders, interpreting requirements and building a clear understanding of project objectives, technical specifications and commercial needs. Working closely with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, you'll develop proposals that clearly demonstrate the value of Clarke Energy's solutions.

From initial enquiry through to submission, you'll coordinate technical, commercial and operational inputs to ensure every bid is accurate, compelling and aligned with customer expectations.

Collaborating across the business

You'll work in partnership with Sales Engineers, Engineering teams, Commercial colleagues and Project Managers to evaluate technical risks, commercial conditions and project delivery considerations. Your ability to bring together information from multiple stakeholders will be essential in creating strong and competitive tender submissions.

You'll also support customer meetings throughout the bid process, helping to refine requirements and build confidence in Clarke Energy's capabilities.

Managing customer and supplier relationships

Building strong relationships is at the heart of this role. You'll act as a key point of contact for customer questions during the proposal phase and work proactively to resolve queries, clarify assumptions and strengthen customer confidence.

In addition, you'll engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations, evaluate solutions and ensure proposals are supported by robust and competitive supply chain information.

Supporting continuous improvement and team development

As a senior member of the Proposals team, you'll help drive best practice and process improvement across the function. You'll conduct regular work-in-progress reviews, support workload planning and contribute to the development of less experienced Proposals Engineers.

Your experience and leadership will help improve efficiency, maintain high standards and support the continued growth of the team.

Ensuring quality, compliance and successful handover

You'll maintain accurate proposal records, support quality systems and ensure bids are developed in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards. Once projects are secured, you'll provide effective handover support to Project Delivery teams to ensure a smooth transition from sales to execution. [

About you

You're a technically minded and commercially aware professional who enjoys solving complex challenges and delivering high-quality work. You thrive in a collaborative environment, communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and take pride in helping secure successful project outcomes.

You'll likely bring:

• Experience within a proposals, bids or technical sales environment in the engineering sector
• Sound knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering principles
• Experience evaluating technical and commercial risk
• An understanding of contract terms and commercial conditions
• Strong planning, organisational and project coordination skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• A proactive, customer-focused approach and the ability to perform effectively under pressure

Desirable experience

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

• Degree or HND in Mechanical, Electrical or a related Engineering discipline
• Experience working with gas engine technology
• Experience within the power generation, energy or industrial engineering sectors
• Previous experience supporting or mentoring junior team members
