Who You Are
You are a Senior Python Engineer who knows how Python works under the hood: packaging, dependency resolution, and how behavior changes between runtime versions. You enjoy large-scale upgrade and modernization work, and you approach it carefully, testing thoroughly and documenting the evidence for each change. You work independently on well-defined tasks, write clear pull requests, respond well to code review, and keep stakeholders informed of progress and blockers in a distributed team. You’ll join a platform engineering team leading a Python 3.12 migration across a large codebase.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare Python 3.12 migration and runtime-upgrade pull requests for assigned packages and services, following the team’s migration plan.
- Resolve dependency and build compatibility issues by updating version constraints and replacing deprecated or unmaintained libraries.
- Validate upgrades with unit, integration, and runtime compatibility tests, investigating failures and documenting evidence for a safe rollout.
- Improve migration scripts, build configuration, linting, and static checks to make repeated upgrade work safer and easier to review.
- Work with package and service owners on code review feedback, track progress and blockers, and escalate issues that need broader platform changes.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of professional Python experience, including maintaining production services or shared libraries in a large codebase.
- Advanced English (B2/C1) is mandatory, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of Python packaging and build tooling: dependency resolution, version constraints, virtual environments, and package compatibility.
- Hands-on experience upgrading Python runtimes and libraries, including diagnosing behavior changes across versions and managing transitive dependencies.
- Practical experience with linting, formatting, and static analysis in CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong testing and debugging skills, including telling migration regressions apart from unrelated failures.
Nice to Have
- Experience with large-scale refactors, staged runtime rollouts, or dependency upgrades coordinated across many packages and services.
- Familiarity with native Python extensions, compiled dependencies, or compatibility issues across Linux and Apple Silicon environments.
- Experience building reusable migration scripts or automation that reduces repeated upgrade work.
- Background in developer productivity, build and test infrastructure, or platform engineering teams
