As a Senior QA Automation Engineer you are a technical leader who sets the quality bar for your team and elevates testing practices across the organization. You blend deep automation expertise with cross-functional leadership — crafting in-depth test strategies, driving non-functional and load testing, mentoring engineers, and partnering with your Tech Lead to define automation approaches for large, complex projects. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, ownership of quality and technical excellence, and the ability to drive high-quality deliverables that ensure customers have an unparalleled experience across our digital platforms.
What You Will Do:
Be the quality champion for your team, owning the end-to-end validation of features, including requirements definition, in-depth test planning, and quality signoff.
Partner with the Tech Lead to define automation plans and test strategies for large projects, and help the team find ways to deliver incrementally for larger projects.
Craft in-depth test plans and maintain robust automation frameworks for testing APIs, mobile applications (iOS and Android), and desktop to ensure reliable releases.
Drive non-functional testing (NFT) for your team and manage load testing for large features, participating hands-on in performance and load testing efforts.
Be the owner of your test suite. Actively monitor automation results, address failures and issues regularly, and continuously fine-tune runners and framework performance.
Build, maintain, and optimize test pipelines within CI/CD workflows, ensuring developers receive fast feedback on the test results of their changes.
Coach developers on unit and integration testing.
Participate in UAT and provide suggestions for improvement across the application.
Proactively identify risks, advocate for testing best practices, and address gaps in automation coverage. Consider the impact of work across multiple teams and proactively manage issues.
Identify and drive new and better ways of working, and consistently achieve project goals while supporting the team in overcoming obstacles to deliver results.
Regularly demonstrate new automation tests with engineering and partner with the team to improve the test suite. Raise defects and advocate for their resolution in team triage sessions.
Provide support for internal tools and frameworks, contributing to the broader Automation QA (AQA) strategy across the organization.
Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to the design and implementation of high-quality, scalable, testable systems.
Leadership & Collaboration:
Foster strong relationships within the team and with cross-functional partners.
Inspire and motivate engineers by embodying the company values and supporting them in their development.
Communicate effectively with a cross-functional audience, and interpret, add to, and execute against cross-functional plans.
Manage projects with team members in a collaborative and open-minded manner, facilitating teamwork and ensuring team members are engaged and motivated.
Use feedback to continuously improve and support others in their development.
5+ years of progressive experience as a QA Automation Engineer or SDET in an Agile environment, including demonstrated technical leadership.
Ability to start something from scratch and then explain and teach it to others.
Very strong knowledge of Selenium/Appium behavior, with proven expertise in mobile (iOS/Android), API, and UI automation.
Able to inspect a UI automation framework and reverse engineer it enough to contribute tests, and able to inspect a UI framework setup and fine-tune runners, performance, and reliability.
Able to conduct advanced interrogation of APIs via manual tools, and write scripts in a programming language to link API calls together and verify fields or perform similar-level tests.
Ability to stand up simple UI-based load testing scenarios and manage load testing for large features; good understanding of checking basic performance across various components.
Ability to use automated security tooling (e.g. Burp).
Strong coding skills in JavaScript or TypeScript (or demonstrated ability to learn quickly).
Deep understanding of CI/CD practices and experience with tools like GitLab CI/CD.
Expertise in API/RESTful service testing, risk-based testing approaches, and automation strategy development.
Solid familiarity with issue-tracking tools such as Jira and strong organizational skills for documenting and managing test cases in tools such as Zephyr.
Experience testing in cloud-native environments, with exposure to Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS.
Experience interfacing with BrowserStack/SauceLabs/LambdaTest for Appium test automation is strongly preferred.
Exposure to Kafka, Terraform, or Splunk/New Relic for monitoring and debugging.
Basic understanding of Java or Scala to support engineering collaboration.
