Senior QA Automation Engineer, B2B Contract

Contract: B2B, invoiced through your own company

Length: Initial 3 to 6 months

Start date: Immediately

Location: Fully remote, within 80km of Iași, Cluj-Napoca or Bucharest, Romania. Applications from outside these areas won't be considered.

The engagement

You'll join a high-volume online marketplace part-way through a major, multi-year technology transformation. There's a live migration from GCP to AWS and a full version 2 build underway.

You'll embed in a product squad as its quality engineer, alongside a tech lead, a principal engineer, three full-stack engineers and a platform engineer.

You'll own test coverage, automation and validation standards for the features the squad ships, across the UI, APIs and the data passed between systems. You'll also own the release process for the core platform.

Day to day

You'll write and maintain automated tests in Playwright and shape the squad's test approach. You'll build API and contract tests for third-party integrations, such as the search and recommendations platform, and validate the data flowing between systems.

You'll run frequent releases end to end: build the release scope in Jira, check every change is merged and ready, deploy through GitHub Actions, run regression on staging and sign off production.

You'll work in a blended squad of permanent and contract colleagues, so you'll need to be productive quickly.

The platform

Very few marketplaces handle a product catalogue or transaction volume at this level.

The roadmap includes agentic AI workflows, retail media built into the marketplace, and infrastructure work on cost and performance at high volume.

Much of this is being attempted at volumes rarely tested before, so the work is research-led. It suits someone comfortable with ambiguity and shifting ground.

What we need

Essentials

• 5+ years in QA, covering manual and automated testing, with recent senior experience

• Deep expertise in JavaScript or TypeScript, including building, maintaining and extending Playwright test frameworks professionally

• API and contract testing of REST integrations (e.g. Playwright request, Postman)

• Data validation, including SQL

• Owning releases: release scoping, Git branching and release workflows (feature, dev and main branches, tagged releases), CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, staging regression and production sign-off

• Using AI tools such as Claude Code in QA work

• SDLC QA processes in Jira and Confluence: planning, test cases, defect tracking, reporting

• Comfortable working in English, written and spoken

Also needed

• OOP and test design patterns (e.g. Page Object Model)

• Test reporting tools and services

• Investigating performance and latency issues

• Using monitoring and error tracking tools (e.g. New Relic, Rollbar) to triage issues after a release

Nice to have

• Ecommerce or marketplace experience (checkout, sellers, payments, multiple countries and currencies)

• Search and recommendations platforms and A/B testing

• Google Cloud Platform, especially BigQuery

• AWS

• Jenkins
