About Handtevy
Handtevy is a healthcare SaaS company whose platform is used by hospitals, EMS agencies, and healthcare organizations to deliver evidence-based medication dosing, standardized clinical protocols, and real-time coordination tools for emergency medical services.
Our technology supports first responders and clinicians in high-stakes environments where clarity, speed, and reliability are critical. Our applications are used in ambulances, emergency departments, and healthcare systems every day. When a paramedic calculates a pediatric dose in our app, it has to be right. Quality here is a patient safety function, not a checkbox.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior QA Lead who leads from the front. This is a player-coach role: you will spend most of your week hands-on, building automation, writing tests, and breaking things before our customers can. The rest goes to coaching QA engineers, setting standards, and deciding when a release is actually ready.
You’ll join an established QA team with an existing automation practice and help it grow as the company scales. You will own test strategy across our web, mobile, and backend systems, and you will raise the bar on how the team uses AI tools to test faster and deeper. We want someone who shows the team what good looks like by doing it first.
What You’ll Do
Lead by Example
- Design, build, and maintain automated test suites for our Angular web platform, Ionic Capacitor mobile app, and NestJS APIs.
- Write automation in TypeScript alongside the engineering team, in the same repo and pipeline.
- Own test architecture: framework choices, test data strategy, environments, and how tests run in CI.
- Use AI-assisted tools daily to generate test cases, expand coverage, maintain suites, and triage failures, then teach the team to do the same well.
- Keep the suite trustworthy by tracking flaky tests and fixing root causes quickly.
Protect Clinical Accuracy
- Own and extend automated coverage of the logic that matters most: weight- and age-based medication dosing, clinical protocols, and edge cases where a wrong value could reach a patient.
- Partner with our clinical team to turn clinical rules into verifiable test cases.
- Validate integrations with third-party ePCR partners (such as ESO and ImageTrend), including NEMSIS data exchange.
- Help test AI-powered features in our SaaS platform, including how outputs are evaluated before they reach clinical users.
Coach and Set Standards
- Mentor QA engineers on automation, test design, and effective AI tool usage through pairing and code review.
- Define a risk-based test strategy for each release so effort goes where the risk is.
- Establish clear release readiness criteria and give engineering leadership an honest go/no-go call.
- Deepen QA’s role in refinement so acceptance criteria and test expectations are clear before development starts.
- Track and improve quality metrics: automated coverage of critical paths, escaped defects, regression cycle time, and flaky test rate.
Partner Across the Team
- Work closely with our Engineers, DevOps, and Product teams.
- Support production monitoring and incident response with fast, well-documented reproduction.
- Contribute audit-ready test evidence to support our SOC 2 program.
Our Engineering Culture
- We build with Angular, Tailwind, NestJS, Ionic Capacitor, Aurora MySQL, DocumentDB, and AWS.
- We use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot across engineering and QA.
- We have active initiatives using Generative AI within our product ecosystem.
- We invest in observability and testing frameworks that give us real confidence in production.
- Engineers and QA have meaningful input into tooling and technical direction.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years in QA or SDET roles, including 2+ years leading or mentoring QA engineers while staying hands-on.
- Strong automation skills in TypeScript or JavaScript, with at least one framework you built or substantially shaped (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, WebdriverIO).
- Experience automating mobile app testing (e.g., Appium, Detox, or similar), ideally for hybrid apps.
- Solid API testing experience with REST services.
- Experience integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
- Real, current experience using AI tools in your QA work. You can explain specifically what you use them for, where they help, and where they fall short.
- Strong test design skills: risk-based prioritization, boundary analysis, and knowing what not to automate.
- Clear communication with engineers, product, and leadership, including the ability to make and defend a release call.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience in healthcare, medical devices, or other safety-critical or regulated environments.
- Experience testing clinical calculations, dosing logic, or similar high-consequence rules.
- Familiarity with NEMSIS, FHIR, HL7, or other healthcare data standards.
- Experience evaluating or testing LLM-powered features.
- Performance, load, or accessibility (WCAG) testing experience.
- Familiarity with observability platforms such as Datadog.
- Experience working in a SOC 2 or similarly compliance-driven environment.
What Success Looks Like in 6 to 12 Months
- Automated coverage of critical clinical paths keeps pace as the platform and release cadence grow.
- Regression cycles get faster as we ship more often, with escaped defects trending down.
- Suite reliability stays high as coverage expands.
- AI-assisted testing practices are consistent and effective across the QA team.
- Release readiness criteria scale with our growth and remain trusted by engineering and product leadership.
Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Investment in professional development and modern engineering tools.
- Direct impact on a platform used in life-saving emergency care.
- Collaborative, mission-driven environment.
How to Apply
Submit your resume and a few sentences on two things: a test automation framework you built or rebuilt and what changed because of it, and one specific way you use AI tools in your testing work today.
Handtevy is an equal opportunity employer.
