About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Quality Automation (QA/QC) & Release Engineer to help ensure the quality, reliability, and safe delivery of web, commerce, and MarTech platforms.
This role focuses on building and maintaining automated testing frameworks, validating end-to-end customer journeys, and establishing effective release processes across integrated systems. The scope includes web applications, APIs, commerce workflows, consent management, identity transitions, third-party integrations, and customer data delivery.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in test automation, API testing, CI/CD integration, and production release practices. They can independently drive quality engineering initiatives, identify risks across application and data boundaries, and collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, Product, Marketing Operations, Privacy teams, and external vendors.
This is a senior individual contributor role that combines hands-on automation, functional and exploratory testing, and release coordination while maintaining shared responsibility for quality across engineering teams.

Role Scope

• Own the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of automated regression testing for critical customer journeys and integrated platforms.
• Drive quality assurance across web, commerce, APIs, customer data flows, consent management, and third-party integrations.
• Establish and maintain risk-based testing strategies, quality gates, and release validation processes.
• Coordinate release readiness and provide clear testing evidence to support safe production deployments.
• Partner with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to identify quality risks, investigate defects, and improve platform reliability.
• Support continuous improvement of testing practices, automation stability, defect prevention, and release efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated regression tests for core customer journeys, including content discovery, account flows, location-based features, ticketing handoffs, Shopify commerce workflows, and mobile WebViews.
• Implement browser and API automation using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or equivalent frameworks.
• Validate API contracts, error handling, cross-browser compatibility, accessibility, and application performance against defined acceptance criteria.
• Build and maintain automated tests for customer data event payloads, Segment routing, consent enforcement, identity transitions, and downstream data delivery using safe test data.
• Verify bot protection mechanisms against abusive traffic patterns while ensuring legitimate customer interactions are not negatively affected.
• Integrate automated testing and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines to support reliable and frequent platform releases.
• Coordinate release readiness activities, including pre-release validation, smoke testing, rollback verification, and post-release monitoring.
• Plan and execute functional, exploratory, and manual regression testing across web applications, APIs, commerce, consent management, and customer data journeys.
• Identify, document, and track defects, provide reproducible evidence, and validate fixes before production releases.
• Collaborate with engineers and external vendors to investigate production incidents, troubleshoot integration issues, and identify recurring failure patterns.
• Maintain risk-based test plans, reliable test environments, synthetic test accounts, test data, and clear release documentation.
• Monitor automation stability and testing effectiveness, helping reduce escaped defects and improve release confidence.
• Work closely with technical architects, engineering teams, Product, Marketing Operations, Privacy stakeholders, and relevant vendors to align quality practices with business and technical requirements.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in software quality engineering, QA automation, or test automation for production web applications and API-based systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with browser and API test automation using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or equivalent tools.
• Proven experience designing, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated regression tests.
• Experience testing integrated end-to-end customer journeys, including third-party commerce handoffs and asynchronous event processing.
• Solid understanding of API testing, contract validation, error handling, and integration testing.
• Practical experience with functional, exploratory, and manual regression testing.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated quality checks into software delivery workflows.
• Understanding of accessibility testing, cross-browser compatibility, and application performance validation.
• Experience with test data management, test environments, and synthetic accounts.
• Familiarity with observability, production monitoring, defect investigation, and release management practices.
• Ability to analyze privacy, consent, and identity-related scenarios and identify issues across application and customer data systems.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as a senior individual contributor while collaborating effectively with cross-functional technical and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Segment or similar Customer Data Platforms (CDPs).
• Familiarity with Customer.io or similar customer engagement and marketing automation platforms.
• Experience testing Shopify commerce workflows and third-party checkout integrations.
• Experience with Contentful or similar content management systems.
• Exposure to mobile-web applications and WebView testing.
• Experience with API contract testing and performance testing.
• Understanding of event-driven data flows, customer identity management, and consent enforcement across integrated systems.
• Experience supporting frequent production releases across web, commerce, and MarTech platforms.

Position Summary
This position is ideal for an experienced QA Automation Engineer who combines strong technical testing expertise with a practical understanding of production releases, integrated customer journeys, and customer data quality.
The role emphasizes stable automated regression coverage, effective quality gates, reliable release validation, and early detection of defects affecting critical business workflows.
Success in this position means ensuring that core customer journeys and data flows are covered by dependable automated tests, production releases are supported by clear quality evidence, and regressions involving consent, identity, commerce, and third-party integrations are identified before reaching production whenever possible.
Working under the technical direction of two architects, this role provides senior-level individual contribution and release coordination while supporting shared quality ownership across engineering teams.
