About Assembly
Assembly is building the hiring platform for K–12 education. The adults in schools fundamentally change children’s lives, yet the systems used to find and hire them have barely changed in decades. Our ambition is to become the category leader in school hiring, combining AI and human judgment to help schools reach better candidates, assess who will succeed with students, and make better matches.
We’re starting with hard-to-fill teaching roles, using an education-specific candidate database, direct outreach, and targeted social campaigns to find qualified people who often aren’t actively looking. Early school and district pilots are promising. From that starting point, we’re building toward a platform that supports the full hiring process, from sourcing and screening to assessment and candidate engagement, for teachers, school leaders, and the staff who support them.
We’re proud to have the support of Workshop Ventures, a venture studio building and investing in startups in climate and education. Its founders, Eleanor and Chad Laurans, co-founded SimpliSafe; Eleanor also served as CFO of Boston Public Schools.
The Opportunity
Join Assembly as a Senior Recruiter and put your school recruiting experience to work:
Run searches that matter to schools and students
Partner with district and school leaders to understand their needs and keep searches moving
Find, engage, and screen candidates for hard-to-fill roles
Work with colleagues who support sourcing, technology, and school relationships
Help improve the tools you use to recruit
Use Assembly’s technology and AI tools in your daily work
Test new approaches on live searches and share what works
Give the product and engineering team specific feedback on what would make recruiting better
You’ll be our "Customer Zero": an experienced recruiter using Assembly’s tools with real schools and candidates. You’ll work directly with product and engineering to test features, identify problems, and help decide what to improve next. That contribution grows out of the searches you run every day.
What You'll Do
This is a hands-on recruiting role. Most of your time will focus on running searches, screening candidates, and keeping school partners informed. You’ll own a portfolio of searches and conduct phone screens for colleagues’ searches, with support from our product, engineering, and school relationship teams.
Own Recruiting Delivery
Translate school needs into clear candidate profiles and search plans
Find and engage candidates through direct outreach and targeted campaigns
Conduct thoughtful phone screens and give hiring managers clear, evidence-based recommendations
Manage your own searches and screening assignments for others, switching between roles and school contexts without losing the details
Manage School Relationships
Own communication with school partners from intake through candidate handoff and follow-up until roles are filled
Set clear expectations, share progress, gather feedback, and adjust the search when priorities change
Keep accurate records and make sure candidates, hiring managers, and colleagues know the next step
Support Company Development
Use Assembly’s tools and AI workflows to source, screen, and manage candidates
Test new features on live searches and give product and engineering concrete feedback
Identify where AI improves the process and where a recruiter’s judgment and relationships matter most
Share useful workflows with colleagues and document what improves candidate quality and search results
Required Qualifications
School Recruiting Experience: A strong record recruiting for schools or districts, with an understanding of hiring cycles, role requirements, and school operations.
Search Ownership: Experience independently managing multiple searches and delivering qualified, interested candidates.
AI Proficiency and Curiosity: You already use AI in your work, can show workflows you’ve built or improved, and know how to evaluate the results.
Organized Execution: You keep accurate records, manage school relationships, and switch between searches without losing track of priorities or follow-up.
Preferred Backgrounds
Recruiters from school districts or charter networks who have filled challenging roles
Education staffing or recruiting professionals who have served multiple school customers
Former educators who moved into recruiting and helped build processes or introduce new tools
If you don’t meet every requirement but feel you’re an exceptional fit, we encourage you to apply.
Who You Are
A School Insider: You understand the realities of school hiring and earn educators’ trust through informed, thoughtful conversations.
Detail-Oriented and Strategic: You keep track of the details while recognizing when a search needs a different approach.
Relationship Builder: You earn the trust of school partners and candidates, communicate clearly, and follow through on commitments.
Efficient and Scrappy: You move work forward, learn new tools quickly, and take ownership when the next step isn’t obvious.
Collaborative: You share your reasoning, welcome feedback, and enjoy building with people whose expertise differs from yours.
