Global Investigations Review (GIR), a leading international news, analysis and data platform covering cross-border investigations into corporate wrongdoing, is seeking a motivated and driven senior reporter to join the team in London.
You’ll be part of a specialist reporting team covering white-collar investigations and enforcement, a fast-evolving beat shaped by intensifying geopolitical tensions, and the expansion of anti-corruption, sanctions and export control regimes across the globe.
You will write for a global audience of investigations and compliance practitioners, including lawyers, prosecutors, regulators, in-house counsel and risk professionals.
Original, substantive reporting – including scoops, exclusive interviews, and data-led analysis – that provides real strategic insight for our audience is a major priority for the brand. Candidates should be able to show a track record in obtaining scoops and other exclusives through source relationships, public records requests and other original reporting techniques. The successful candidate will also be expected to spend significant amounts of time reporting from various courtrooms, gathering information from court documents, legal and financial filings. Other regular reporting activities include covering court hearings in civil and criminal cases, and close analysis of court filings, regulatory disclosures and enforcement actions from across the globe. Senior reporters will also be given development opportunities, including participating in the commissioning and editing processes where appropriate, helping more junior colleagues ensure their reporting is watertight, and collaborating with colleagues on original, in-depth reporting projects.
We regularly cover activity by and developments at relevant US and UK agencies, such as the Department of Justice and the US Treasury Department, the UK’s Serious Fraud Office, and the Financial Conduct Authority, as well as those further afield – including white-collar prosecutors in Switzerland, France, and Brazil. If you are passionate about rigorous journalism and exceptional storytelling, have an inquisitive mind, and can thrive in a fast-paced – and collaborative – environment, we would love to hear from you. Our hybrid working policy sees reporters generally working in the office or out on assignment three days a week. Because of GIR’s international outlook, a second language is a major asset.
This is a unique opportunity to develop as a journalist in the UK capital; to build a strong network of sources in the legal community across the globe; and to produce original news, features and analysis. The job also comes with regular travel opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading coverage of developments that shape the white-collar crime landscape, including at the enforcement agency and political level, across a wide variety of countries outside of the US
- Breaking exclusive stories within that space on a regular basis, through a well‑developed network of sources across government, private practice, industry and advocacy groups
- Delivering insightful analysis that explains the legal, commercial and political significance of developments, as well as the technical detail
- Writing across formats, including daily news, long‑form features, data‑driven pieces, surveys and live or event‑based coverage
- Representing the brands externally at conferences, industry events and client meetings, building profile, trust and relationships in the market
- Driving or contributing to major editorial projects, such as special reports and cross‑brand initiatives
- Editing and supporting other reporters where appropriate, helping to maintain strong story framing and high editorial standards
- Delivering clean and accurate copy on deadline that requires minimal editing
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Who You Are
You are an established journalist ideally with exposure to the legal world or white-collar crime beat. You bring:
- A strong existing contacts book in London or another jurisdiction with established and regular white-collar crime enforcement, with the ability to generate off‑diary stories and original insight
- A track record of breaking exclusive news and producing authoritative, agenda‑setting analysis
- Confidence in covering complex legal and regulatory issues, including when presented at court hearings, with clarity, precision and speed
- The ability to identify commercial, strategic and political implications, not just legal outcomes
- Strong news judgement and the ability to independently manage multiple deadlines while balancing daily reporting with longer‑term projects
- A self-starter with a collaborative mindset
- Have a degree in Journalism, Communications or Law, or equivalent work experience
- Fluency in a second language would be a strong advantage
