The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior SAP Functional Specialist to lead SAP functional analysis, business-process optimization, solution design, configuration, testing, implementation support, and continuous improvement across SAP environments.

The ideal candidate will bridge business requirements and SAP capabilities, working closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, SAP developers, integration specialists, and external partners to deliver effective, scalable, and well-governed SAP solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead functional analysis and solution design for SAP business processes and applications.
• Gather, document, validate, and prioritize business requirements from functional stakeholders.
• Translate business requirements into scalable SAP functional solutions.
• Analyze existing business processes and identify opportunities for standardization, simplification, and automation.
• Configure SAP functional modules and related business-process components according to approved requirements.
• Develop functional specifications for custom developments, reports, interfaces, workflows, forms, and enhancements.
• Work closely with SAP technical teams, developers, integration specialists, and architects to ensure accurate solution delivery.
• Support SAP implementation, rollout, enhancement, migration, upgrade, and transformation programs.
• Conduct fit-gap analysis between business requirements and standard SAP capabilities.
• Recommend SAP standard functionality before proposing custom solutions.
• Design end-to-end business processes spanning multiple SAP modules and organizational functions.
• Support integration between SAP and external applications, platforms, and enterprise systems.
• Define functional requirements for interfaces, APIs, middleware, data exchanges, and integration workflows.
• Support master-data requirements including customers, suppliers, materials, products, assets, employees, and financial master data as applicable.
• Review business-process configurations and identify configuration gaps, inconsistencies, and control weaknesses.
• Develop and maintain functional process documentation, configuration documentation, and solution design materials.
• Coordinate functional testing including unit, integration, system, regression, and user-acceptance testing.
• Develop test scenarios, test scripts, expected results, and traceability matrices.
• Support business users during UAT and resolve functional issues identified during testing.
• Analyze production incidents and determine root causes of SAP functional issues.
• Coordinate incident resolution with technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
• Manage SAP change requests, enhancements, defects, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Assess the business impact, risks, dependencies, and effort associated with proposed SAP changes.
• Support SAP release management, transport coordination, regression testing, and deployment readiness.
• Participate in SAP upgrades, enhancement packs, migrations, cloud transformations, and S/4HANA initiatives where applicable.
• Evaluate new SAP functionality and assess its relevance to business requirements.
• Support S/4HANA adoption, process simplification, and migration-readiness activities where applicable.
• Conduct workshops with business users to understand operational requirements and future-state processes.
• Facilitate process-design sessions, requirements workshops, solution walkthroughs, and stakeholder reviews.
• Provide functional guidance and subject-matter expertise to project teams and business stakeholders.
• Develop process flows, functional models, business scenarios, and solution documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve SAP-enabled business processes through workflow, automation, analytics, and self-service capabilities.
• Support SAP workflow design and approval-process optimization.
• Analyze SAP transaction data to identify process inefficiencies, errors, bottlenecks, and control issues.
• Establish functional controls and validation requirements within SAP processes.
• Support segregation-of-duties, authorization, compliance, and audit requirements from a functional perspective.
• Work with cybersecurity and SAP security teams to ensure functional requirements are appropriately reflected in access and control models.
• Support data migration activities including mapping, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and business sign-off.
• Define functional data-conversion requirements and support migration testing.
• Validate migrated data against business rules and expected SAP outcomes.
• Coordinate with external SAP consultants, implementation partners, and managed-service providers.
• Define functional deliverables, acceptance criteria, service expectations, and quality requirements for external partners.
• Review vendor deliverables and ensure solutions comply with approved business and SAP standards.
• Support SAP service-level management and monitor recurring functional issues.
• Develop knowledge-transfer materials, user guides, standard operating procedures, and training documentation.
• Deliver functional training and support business users during SAP implementations and process changes.
• Promote SAP standardization and reduce unnecessary customization across the SAP landscape.
• Maintain functional roadmaps aligned with business priorities, SAP strategy, and technology transformation plans.
• Monitor SAP product developments, emerging capabilities, and industry best practices.
• Provide management with regular reporting on SAP initiatives, functional performance, risks, issues, improvements, and delivery progress.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have strong experience in SAP functional consulting, SAP application management, business-process analysis, ERP implementation, SAP transformation, or enterprise application support, preferably within a complex multinational, commercial, industrial, logistics, financial, or service-oriented environment.

The candidate should demonstrate:

• Strong understanding of SAP enterprise applications and functional business processes.
• Proven experience gathering requirements and translating them into SAP solutions.
• Strong functional configuration and solution-design capabilities.
• Experience with one or more major SAP functional areas such as FI/CO, MM, SD, PP, WM/EWM, PM, QM, HCM, SuccessFactors, Ariba, or related SAP solutions.
• Strong understanding of end-to-end business processes and cross-functional SAP integration.
• Experience with SAP implementation, enhancement, rollout, upgrade, or transformation projects.
• Strong knowledge of fit-gap analysis and SAP standard-versus-custom solution evaluation.
• Experience developing functional specifications for technical development.
