Senior SAS Developer

About the Role:

Illumen Group Inc is seeking a Senior SAS Developer to support the U.S. Census Bureau, which serves as the nation’s leading provider of quality data about its people and economy and manages over 130 annual surveys in addition to the decennial census. This role develops, maintains, and supports SAS programs and the environments they run on, working across PostgreSQL and Oracle databases and AWS-hosted, containerized platforms.

This position is built for a resourceful problem solver. The ideal candidate can take an issue with incomplete information, work out what is happening, and resolve it without step-by-step direction. They research unfamiliar code and configurations on their own, make sound decisions within their scope, and bring clear options to the team when an issue needs a broader decision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain SAS programs that support data processing, analysis, and reporting
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in existing SAS code, including code with limited or outdated documentation
• Support SAS system configuration, including installation, environment setup, and resolving configuration-related issues
• Write and optimize SQL against PostgreSQL databases, and connect SAS processes to PostgreSQL and Oracle data sources
• Develop and maintain Oracle PL/SQL procedures, functions, and queries that support SAS workflows
• Support SAS workloads running in AWS and containerized environments
• Identify root causes of issues across code, data, database, and environment layers, and put lasting fixes in place
• Work independently on assigned tasks, setting priorities and following through with minimal oversight
• Research unfamiliar systems, code, and tools independently, and escalate with recommended options when a decision is needed
• Document code, configurations, and procedures so others can support and maintain them
• Collaborate with developers, database administrators, and government stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver solutions

Required:

• 5+ years of hands-on SAS development experience
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems independently
• Experience working in and modifying existing code written by others
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a remote environment
• Must be a U.S. Citizen due to federal contract security requirements.

Preferred:

• Experience with SAS system configuration and administration
• 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL
• 2+ years of experience with Oracle and PL/SQL
• Experience with AWS and containerization
