Senior Security Engineer


Location: Remote within Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, Tennessee, or Florida; one week onsite during initial onboarding and quarterly travel for 3–4 days per visit, with additional travel as needed


Position Overview

The Senior Security Engineer will serve as a senior technical resource within an established cybersecurity team, combining security engineering with project leadership and mentoring responsibilities. The role supports day-to-day security operations across identity, endpoint, email, privileged access, cloud, and compliance environments while helping direct projects, assign work, train junior engineers, and strengthen security practices across the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical resource for security operations, including incident response, vulnerability management, identity management, and security control development.
  • Lead security projects and coordinate work across engineering resources while providing technical direction and mentoring less-experienced team members.
  • Support and enhance security technologies including Okta, CrowdStrike, Proofpoint, BeyondTrust, Azure, Microsoft 365, and Snowflake.
  • Support compliance, audit preparation, security governance, user provisioning, and security-related help-desk activities.
  • Participate in employee onboarding and security training and help develop junior security professionals.


Required Experience

  • Approximately 5–7 years of cybersecurity or security engineering experience with the ability to operate as a senior technical resource.
  • Hands-on experience across security operations, incident response, vulnerability management, identity management, and security control implementation.
  • Experience leading technical projects, directing work, and mentoring or training less-experienced security professionals.
  • Experience working within a highly regulated environment such as insurance, banking, financial services, or healthcare.
  • CISSP or an equivalent senior-level cybersecurity certification.


Preferred Experience

  • Security+ or SSCP certification.
  • Experience developing automation or user-provisioning scripts.
  • Security architecture, compliance audit support, or security training experience.
