Senior SMSF Accountant

This is a remote position.

• Assisting with client queries in relation to various matters.
  
• Preparation of special purpose financial statements and income tax returns for Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs).
  
• Preparation of client checklist and review of client information received including review of client accounting files and records
  
• General tax compliance e.g. Preparation and review of GST and PAYG, BAS and IAS
  
• Be able to prepare unit trust accounts, income tax return and distribute accounting and tax income to the super fund.
  
• Undertake effective and relevant tax research as required for the completion of general compliance work and assistance with client queries.
  
• Preparation of journal adjustments for clients’ accounts
  
• Prioritise and manage day to day workload to ensure tasks are completed effectively as directed by Manager or Supervisor
  
• Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) in relation to basic client matters such as lodgements, debt management and payment plans
  
• Attend client meeting with senior team members (as appropriate)
  
• Assist with client meeting preparation as needed
  
• Make recommendations to Manager to enhance client experience
  
• Prepare client correspondence using templates and standard letters
  
• Provide assistance to all staff in collating relevant and appropriate information from the firm’s relevant systems as well as the ATO portal
  
• Preparation of workpapers using Active Workpapers standard template, including collation of appropriate PDF workpapers in an accurate and timely manner
  
• Prioritise and manage day to day workload to ensure tasks are completed effectively as directed by Manager or Supervisor, and communicate any issues that will prevent the achievement of predetermined timelines.
  
• Accurately complete timesheets in a timely manner and recognise and meet all administrative cut-off times.
  
• Meet personal productivity budgets and billing targets.
  
• Contribute to continuous improvement of systems and work practices.
  
• Support accountant and below level team members with basic accounting, tax and internal processes and procedures.
  
• Assist in the analysis of client WIP and the preparation of fees.
  
• Demonstrate an understanding of individual client needs and proactively make recommendations to Managers to enhance the client experience.
  
• Attend and contribute to external and internal training and professional development activities to maintain and enhance relevant skills.
  
• Receive and interpret client information to assist with servicing our clients
  
• Develop and maintain an awareness of the firm’s divisions and services to assist clients in achieving their objectives.
  
• Ensure all dealings with clients are conducted in a professional and courteous manner.
  
• Adapt and utilise appropriate communication styles in line with the Vincents external communication standards.
  
• Actively seek out opportunities to improve skills.
  
• Develop an awareness of and abide by the firm’s policies and procedures as detailed in the Vincents’ Employee Manual
  

Requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in Business/Commerce with an Accounting major
  
• Completion of CA/CPA qualification
  
• Proven Australian experience in a similar Senior SMSF Accountant role within the Tax and Business Services environment
  
• Comprehensive knowledge of technical accounting concepts and standards
  
• Previous experience with SMSF specialist computerised accounting systems e.g. Class Super, BGL Simple Fund 360
  
• Demonstrate solid business acumen and commercial awareness.
