About the Role As a Senior Software Developer , you will work extensively with an established Visual FoxPro-based application environment , supporting existing functionality while developing enhancements, resolving technical issues, and helping move our products forward. The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable working in a legacy technology environment and understands that maintaining mature software requires more than simply writing new code. You will need to be able to understand existing architecture and business logic, troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and make thoughtful changes without disrupting critical functionality. This role may also provide opportunities to participate in modernization efforts, integrations, database development, and the gradual evolution of our technology platform. What You'll Do Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing Visual FoxPro applications and codebases. Develop new features and functionality based on product and customer requirements. Analyze complex application issues and identify root causes. Debug and resolve production issues in a timely manner . Work with databases, queries, stored procedures, and data structures. Understand and work within an established application architecture and business logic. Perform code reviews and testing to ensure application stability and reliability. Collaborate with other developers, product stakeholders, customer support, and subject-matter experts. Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions. Document application functionality, technical processes, and solutions. Assist with integrations between legacy applications and newer technologies. Participate in efforts to modernize and improve existing applications and development processes. Develop a strong understanding of the business processes supported by our software, particularly financial, accounting, billing, and utility operations. What We're Looking For Required: 5+ years of professional software development experience. Professional experience developing or maintaining Visual FoxPro (VFP) applications . Strong understanding of relational databases , DBF structured files, and SQL. Experience troubleshooting and debugging complex applications. Ability to work independently within a large, established codebase. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to understand and work with existing code rather than relying exclusively on greenfield development. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical team members. Preferred: Experience with Microsoft SQL Server. Experience with C#, .NET, APIs, or other modern development technologies. Experience integrating legacy applications with newer systems. Experience modernizing or migrating legacy applications. Experience with financial, accounting, ERP, billing, or utility billing software. Experience developing software used by local governments or utilities. Experience working in a SaaS or enterprise software environment. Experience with AI tools such as Claude or Codex.
