Senior Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer builds and extends Chartspan's Impact RPM platform — patient enrollment, health data processing, EHR integrations, and messaging workflows — in a HIPAA-regulated production environment. This role owns features end-to-end: design, implementation, code review, and troubleshooting across service boundaries, with judgment on when a pragmatic fix beats a large rewrite.

Responsibilities

? Own delivery of features and bug fixes end-to-end, including short design/research spikes for ambiguous or underspecified requirements.

? Pick up code review responsibilities as a regular part of the role.

? Make trade-off decisions under real constraints (existing schema, HIPAA requirements, production behavior) — bias toward incremental change over rewriting working systems.

? Troubleshoot issues that cross service boundaries, not just within your own codebase.

? Use AI-assisted tooling productively, with the judgment to evaluate and validate its output rather than accept it uncritically.

? Contribute to full-stack work when needed — comfortable reading and modifying the React frontend (Impact-UI) for a fix or small feature.

? Collaborate with product owners, engineers, and (for full-stack/front-end work) UX designers on design sessions, ensuring solutions are aligned to business value and existing architecture.

Qualifications

? 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.

? Working proficiency in Go, or a comparable statically-typed backend language with demonstrated ability to ramp quickly in Go.

? Comfortable reading and contributing to Kotlin/Java (Spring) codebases.

? Solid experience with PostgreSQL (raw SQL, no ORM assumed); exposure to DynamoDB a plus.

? Experience with Kafka or another streaming/event platform in production.

? Experience with a major cloud provider (AWS preferred, but GCP/Azure experience is fine).

? Experience or working familiarity with React for full-stack contributions.

? Experience working in a HIPAA or otherwise regulated data environment preferred.

? Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to explain trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Education and Experience

? Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

? Demonstrated experience shipping multiple complex technical projects in an agile environment.

Physical Requirements

? Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in a variety of environments with multiple distractions.
