The Opportunity:

Join our team as a Senior Software Engineer supporting Department of War (DoW) PPBE (Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution) applications. You'll help build and sustain mission-critical defense financial and planning systems that modernize how the DoW plans, programs, budgets, and executes operations. End-to-end software architecture is yours to own, from traditional full-stack development to integrating agentic AI capabilities such as LLM-enabled features and intelligent document processing, and more. Strong engineering fundamentals and federal-sector experience are essential, because this position helps balance a growing team by setting the standard for design, testing, code review, and ownership. Work is performed in both unclassified and classified environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack applications using modern technologies such as React, TypeScript, NodeJS, Python, and .NET
  • Lead by example in sound software design, automated testing, code review, and ownership of delivered work
  • Mentor and support junior developers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance
  • Integrate AI-enabled features into production systems, including LLM/GenAI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock), RAG pipelines, and agentic workflows, alongside the team's established patterns
  • Architect reliable API integrations with strong error handling and graceful degradation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system defects
  • Address security vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with DoW cybersecurity standards
  • Participate in CI/CD pipelines (GitLab) and collaborative development workflows
  • Document technical implementations and stay current with relevant technology developments

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance
  • Security+ certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related STEM field
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience across the full SDLC
  • Direct, recent experience delivering software in the federal sector (DoD/DoW or other federal agencies), with an understanding of the constraints of federal environments
  • Direct experience with our technology stack: Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, plus React, NodeJS, and/or .NET
  • Demonstrated engineering discipline: sound design, testing, code review, and ownership
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and system integration
  • Proficiency with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desired:

  • Interest in or exposure to AI-enabled software engineering, including
  • LLM APIs, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, agentic patterns, vector databases (Chroma, Weaviate, pgvector), orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, Agno, CrewAI), LLM observability (Phoenix, LangFuse, LangSmith)
  • Knowledge of DoD PPBE processes, defense budget formulation (POM, BES, J-Books, FYDP), or DoD financial systems (e.g., NGRMS, GFEBS, DAI, DEAMS)
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud, AWS Bedrock, or Azure OpenAI Service
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform or other IaC tools
  • Familiarity with ATO processes, NIST frameworks, or FedRAMP
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Jira)
