Location: Oxford, UK – Hybrid (3 days per week in the office)

Salary: £60,000 – £86,300 per annum, depending on experience, plus 10% bonus

Take the lead on building innovative software solutions

We're partnering with a growing global technology and energy research business to find an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join its talented development team in Oxford.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer who enjoys getting hands-on with technology, tackling complex engineering challenges and having a genuine influence on how software is designed and delivered.

You'll be working on modern, cloud-based applications that play an important role in supporting decisions across the global energy sector. From shaping technical solutions and making architectural decisions to delivering production-ready software, you'll have involvement across the full development lifecycle.

Alongside your technical contribution, you'll have the opportunity to share your knowledge, support other developers and help drive the team's engineering standards forward.

What will you be doing?

  • Taking the lead on technical design and architecture across key software projects.
  • Owning development initiatives from initial concept and planning through to deployment.
  • Designing and building secure, scalable and reliable applications.
  • Working with technologies including Node.js, TypeScript, ExpressJS, React, AWS and microservices.
  • Developing customer-facing applications and contributing to micro-frontend solutions.
  • Working closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.
  • Providing guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced engineers.
  • Promoting good engineering practices, continuous improvement and effective ways of working.
  • Taking responsibility for the performance, reliability and security of critical systems.
  • Helping maintain an efficient development environment that supports regular software releases.

What are we looking for?

We're keen to speak with experienced software engineers who have a strong technical background and enjoy taking responsibility for delivering high-quality software.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Strong commercial experience with Node.js, TypeScript, ExpressJS and React.
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Experience designing and delivering complex software projects.
  • The ability to make sound technical decisions and influence architectural direction.
  • Experience supporting, mentoring or coaching other developers.
  • A good understanding of software testing, including unit testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with different teams and stakeholders.
  • A genuine interest in technology, continuous learning and building great software.

Experience with Python would also be beneficial.

What's on offer?

Alongside a competitive salary and annual bonus, the business offers a range of benefits, including:

  • Hybrid working, with three days per week in the Oxford office.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Dental insurance.
  • Salary-exchange pension scheme.
  • Parental support.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Annual flu vaccinations.
  • Local Oxford discounts.
  • A supportive, collaborative working environment with opportunities to develop your skills and progress your career.

Interested?

If you're an established Software Engineer ready to take on a broader technical role, influence engineering decisions and work on interesting software challenges, we'd be keen to hear from you.
