YOUR IMPACT

As a Senior Backend Software Developer on the RunMyJobs (RMJ) team, you will design and deliver the services that power Redwood’s enterprise automation platform. You will shape backend architecture, build secure and reliable integrations, and improve the performance and operability of systems that support mission-critical customer workflows.

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java and the Spring ecosystem.
  • Contribute to distributed system architecture, including service boundaries, data flows, asynchronous processing, and fault tolerance.
  • Design and optimize relational data models, queries, and persistence layers for performance and integrity.
  • Build and maintain integrations with enterprise systems, cloud services, and external APIs.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and other stakeholders to translate requirements into clear technical designs and delivered capabilities.
  • Own backend features through design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvement.
  • Apply secure coding practices, authentication and authorization controls, and sound API design to protect customer data and services.
  • Improve service reliability through observability, performance tuning, automated testing, and effective incident investigation.
  • Lead technical discussions, review code, and help make architectural decisions that support long-term maintainability and scale.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers and encourage practical, responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional backend software development experience, with strong expertise in Java 11/17 or later.
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot and building production-grade services, APIs, and microservices.
  • Experience designing distributed systems with a focus on scalability, resiliency, security, and maintainability.
  • Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design, SQL, and ORM technologies such as Hibernate or JPA.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience testing backend systems with tools such as JUnit and integration or API testing frameworks.
  • Ability to diagnose production issues, identify system bottlenecks, and implement lasting improvements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in an agile development environment.
  • Experience mentoring developers and contributing to technical direction.

Essential AI-Era Skills

  • Adaptability and learning: Curiosity about new tools and the judgment to adopt practices that improve engineering outcomes.
  • Domain and architectural focus: Ability to keep business logic, service boundaries, and system integrity in view when implementing features.
  • Cloud-first mentality: Experience designing and deploying cloud-based services, with AWS expertise especially valuable.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience building SaaS, enterprise software, or automation platforms.
  • Experience decomposing monolithic systems into services or contributing to broader system architecture.
  • Experience with Spring Security and enterprise authentication or authorization patterns.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
  • Experience with application performance profiling, JVM diagnostics, or operating-system-level troubleshooting.
  • Experience building AI-integrated product capabilities.
  • Experience with app marketplaces, platform integrations, or SAP ABAP or HANA integration.
