We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer, reporting to the Head of Technology, who will play a key role in scaling our platform and evolving our system architecture as our product and user base grow rapidly.

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at Kopilot, you will help design and build scalable systems used by thousands of students every day.

This role is backend-focused with full-stack capabilities. You will contribute to critical architectural decisions, improve system reliability and performance, and help evolve our platform toward a scalable architecture.

You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality features quickly while maintaining strong engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• System Transformation: Execute the migration of core business logic from a prototype environment to a structured NestJS & TypeScript backend.
• Architecture Implementation: Work within a Modular Monolith strategy to build clean, maintainable, and "ready-to-microservice" system components.
• Database Optimization: Design and maintain the data layer on PostgreSQL, ensuring data integrity and performance.
• Infrastructure Execution: Implement the Cloud Native roadmap, managing containerization (Docker) and modern CI/CD workflows.
• Quality & Standards: Maintain system stability through automated testing, clear documentation, and adherence to established engineering rules.
• Velocity & AI: Use AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) to maximize engineering velocity and automate repetitive tasks without compromising code quality.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of software engineering experience (Open to 5+ years for candidates with strong startup scale-up or migration experience).
• Strong backend experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS.
• Solid understanding of RDBMS (PostgreSQL) and data integrity.
• Experience with Clean Architecture or Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
• Familiarity with Cloud Native concepts (Docker and modern deployment workflows).
• Full-Stack capability (React or React Native) to support our unified product experience.
• Execution Mindset: A "builder" mentality focused on turning architectural designs into stable, production-ready reality.
• Hybrid-Ready: Ability to attend occasional in-person team meetups in Istanbul (approx. 3-4 times per month) while working primarily remote.
