Say HI* – to your career as
Senior Solution / System Architect – C4I & EW

Location: Tubize

In Tubize, you will join more than 350 colleagues recognized by domestic and international partners for expertise on products such as Radio Frequency (RF) Products, C4ISR, Crypto Global Solution, MACS (Aeronautical Intercom) and many others. Today the Group employs more than 1,400 people across nine sites in Belgium. Discover all Thales activities in Belgium here.

Your role:

As part of the Technical Directorate of Thales Belgium, you will be responsible for steering the technical policy and solutions matters, in strong cooperation with other engineering offices. You will provide senior expertise to support architecture definition, challenge engineering approaches and validate design decisions.

Your mission:

  • Establish the architecture vision for Electronic Warfare (EW) and C4I solutions: identify stakeholders’ concerns and operational needs, and define the system’s boundary, context and external interfaces within multi-domain mission ecosystems.
  • Define, evaluate and recommend candidate architectures, and establish the solution architecture through trade-offs between operational expectations, technical and technological solutions, costs, product policy, risks and schedule; document the associated artefacts and approve the resulting lower-level specifications.
  • Act as the technical reference of the solution in bids, design reviews and customer meetings, shaping the technical offer and supporting cost and risk estimations.
  • Drive the integration of sensors and effectors (ESM/ELINT, COMINT, radar, EO/IR, countermeasures) into C2 and collaborative combat architectures, ensuring interoperability through NATO standards.
  • Manage, throughout the project lifecycle, the key and critical requirements (in particular KPIs, KPPs, interoperability and cybersecurity), the technical negotiation between stakeholders and the architectural changes, while coaching engineers and promoting a model-based co-engineering approach.

What we are looking for:

  • You hold a Master of Engineering, Computer Science or Systems Engineering and have at least 12 years of professional experience in defence systems engineering, including several years as System, Solution or Technical Architect (or Design Authority) in a system-of-systems environment.
  • You have proven experience on Electronic Warfare and/or C4I / C4ISR solutions, ideally both, from requirements and design through integration, test and customer acceptance.
  • You master architecture frameworks and modelling approaches (Arcadia/Capella, NAF, SysML) and have solid knowledge of NATO interoperability standards (FMN, STANAGs) and of cybersecurity principles.
  • You have a strong knowledge of the military domain and operational analysis, and of the functions and performance of sensors (radars, passive electromagnetic sensors, optronics), weapon systems and command and control systems.
  • You are fluent in English (French and/or Dutch is an asset), you lead through influence and co-engineering, and you are eligible for a security clearance.

Thales is a global technology leader with more than 83,000 employees on five continents. The Group is investing in digital and “deep tech” innovations – Big Data, artificial intelligence, connectivity, cybersecurity and quantum technology – to build a future we can all trust. For more than 20 years, Thales has pursued a robust corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy based on the highest international standards. The principles behind this policy are now captured in the company’s purpose of “building a future we can all trust”, which was adopted in 2020.
