Job Description

As Lead Systems Engineer, you provide technical leadership for the development of complex medical devices, with a focus on tracking systems, optical systems and AI-enabled machine vision. You contribute to the oversight of the spatial intelligence platform architecture and help drive the continuous improvement of our Systems Engineering methods.

The solutions you shape are shared platforms and technology blocks that are leveraged across the corporation. They must be designed for reuse, scalability and long-term lifecycle management.

We are looking for an analytical, structured systems thinker who leads through clarity and sound judgment. You align diverse stakeholders, make well-founded technical decisions and drive engineering excellence across global teams.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for systems engineering in complex medical device development, mainly in tracking systems, optical systems and AI-enabled machine vision.
  • Define system architectures, requirements, interfaces and integration strategies from concept to release.
  • Define system-level requirements, architecture and verification strategies for AI-enabled machine vision functions, including data, model performance and integration into embedded platforms.
  • Shape solutions as shared platforms and technology blocks that are leveraged across the corporation, ensuring reuse, scalability and interoperability across business units and applications.
  • Contribute to the oversight of the spatial intelligence platform architecture.
  • Drive well-founded technical decisions and alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Help drive the continuous improvement of Systems Engineering methods and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, R&D and corporate stakeholders to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Contribute to Systems Engineering initiatives and forums, bringing in practical product development experience.
  • Facilitate workshops, architecture reviews and cross-functional discussions to reach consensus and effective decisions.
  • Coach and mentor engineers in Systems Engineering methods and practices.
  • Support audits, training and continuous improvement initiatives.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive experience in developing medical devices or products in highly regulated industries.
  • Strong expertise in Systems Engineering, System Architecture, Requirements Engineering, and System Integration.
  • Experience developing complex, multidisciplinary systems, particularly in tracking, optical, machine vision or other sensing and imaging-based devices.
  • Hands-on experience with AI and machine learning in machine vision applications, such as object detection, segmentation and tracking, and a solid understanding of how to integrate and validate them within a system.
  • Experience with Guidance Systems or Computer-Assisted Surgery (CAS) is highly beneficial.
  • Solid background in electronics, software and embedded systems.
  • Experience with platform-based or modular product architectures, including technology blocks reused across multiple products or business units.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence and to drive alignment across functions and locations.
  • Analytical, structured thinker with strong problem-solving and organizational capabilities.
  • Experience working within quality management systems and regulated development environments.

Preferred Skills / Engineering Tools

  • Requirements Management and Traceability Tools
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Systems Modeling and Architecture Tools
  • Design and verification methods for tracking, optical, AI-enabled machine vision and embedded systems
  • Familiarity with AI/ML development workflows, including training data management, model validation and deployment on embedded hardware
  • Configuration Management and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Systems
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and methodologies
  • Knowledge of medical device regulations, risk management, and quality systems (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14971), including regulatory considerations for AI/ML-enabled devices

This role suits an analytical, structured Systems Engineering leader who combines deep technical expertise in tracking, optical and AI-enabled machine vision systems with strong facilitation and leadership skills. You will drive engineering excellence across shared platforms and technology blocks used throughout the corporation, and help continuously improve our Systems Engineering methods.
