Senior Stress Engineer

Are you a Senior Stress Engineer passionate about ensuring the safety and performance of Gas Turbines and want to work on cutting-edge aero engine technology?

Belcan is hiring a Senior Stress Engineer to join the team in Glasgow.

You will specialise in the structural integrity of rotating components within gas turbines in our office on a Hybrid working basis. As a Senior Stress Engineer you will be expected to have a high level of competency in FEA and associated component stress and lifing activities. You will be able to work independently on highly technical tasks within the stress team reporting to Team Leaders and client representatives as required to effectively communicate your work and identify issues as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed stress analysis (static, fatigue, creep, vibration) on rotatives such as discs, shafts, and blades.
• Creation of FE meshes
• Identify analysis solutions and recommend improvements or suggest alternative methods
• Utilise FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS) and classical hand calculations to validate designs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in design, materials, and manufacturing to optimise component performance.
• Prepare and present technical documentation and stress reports for internal and external stakeholders, including airworthiness authorities.
• Provide mentoring / knowledge sharing with colleagues

Essential Skills & Experience

• Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with a focus on rotating machinery.
• ANSYS Workbench and APDL
• Experience of meshing software (e.g. NX or HyperMesh)
• Experience of working with recognised FEA and fatigue software tools
