What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Systems Administrator who wants to build, modernize, and make an impact - not simply maintain what already exists.

You’ll own and improve a broad Microsoft environment spanning Windows infrastructure, Microsoft 365, identity, Azure, security, monitoring, backup, and recovery. This is a small team, so you’ll have meaningful autonomy, broad technical exposure, and the opportunity to directly influence how our environment evolves.

We’re looking for someone who sees outdated architecture or repetitive work and wants to make it better, someone equally comfortable solving today’s production issue and building a smarter way to prevent tomorrow’s.

What You'll Do

  • Own and improve Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and related infrastructure.

  • Administer and expand our Azure environment across compute, networking, storage, monitoring, backup, and identity.

  • Modernize aging infrastructure and help shape Agate’s evolving cloud architecture.

  • Automate repetitive administration and reporting using PowerShell and other tools.

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement durable solutions.

  • Strengthen security, patching, vulnerability remediation, backup, recovery, and infrastructure resilience.

  • Partner across Security, Development, Service Desk, and business teams on infrastructure projects and operational challenges.

What You'll Bring

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on systems administration experience in a production environment.

  • Strong Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, networking, and Microsoft 365 experience.

  • Hands-on cloud administration experience, ideally with Microsoft Azure.

  • Working knowledge of virtualization, storage, backup and recovery, monitoring, and infrastructure security.

  • Practical PowerShell automation experience.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience owning technical problems through resolution.

  • A security-minded, continuous-improvement approach and the judgment to work independently.

  • Degree, certifications, or equivalent practical experience - we care most about what you can do.

What Makes This Role Exciting

Agate’s infrastructure is entering a significant period of modernization. Among the challenges ahead is an eventual migration of our production environment from Azure Government to Azure Commercial, creating an opportunity to rethink architecture that was built nearly a decade ago and make it more modern, resilient, efficient, and cost-effective.

Because we’re a small team, you won’t be a cog in the wheel. You’ll get your hands into a wide range of technologies, have room to introduce better approaches, and see the direct impact of what you build.

There is plenty here to operate. But the reason to join is what there is to build.

At Agate Software you'll be part of a team that is dedicated to making a difference through cutting-edge technology and unwavering dedication to our impactful work. If you're ready to make a significant contribution to communities in need and grow your career in an inspiring and challenging environment, apply today!
