Senior Tax Accountant
Carbon GroupWe’re looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join Carbon’s Accounting & Tax team in a remote, compliance-focused role.
This role is ideal for someone who knows Australian public practice inside and out, enjoys getting the technical work right, and can confidently manage compliance jobs from start to finish.
You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of small to medium businesses and individuals, preparing high-quality financial statements, tax returns and other compliance work. While you’ll be part of a broader team, this position has less emphasis on day-to-day client management and more focus on doing great technical work, managing deadlines and keeping jobs moving.
Being remote doesn’t mean working on an island. You’ll be part of a supportive team of Carbonites, working closely with our accountants and managers and having access to the systems, people and support you need to do your job well.
No two days will be exactly the same, but you can expect to:
- Prepare financial statements and tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts and partnerships.
- Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other compliance requirements.
- Manage accounting and tax jobs from start to finish.
- Complete tax reconciliations and associated workpapers.
- Apply your knowledge of Australian taxation legislation to identify and resolve compliance issues.
- Liaise with the ATO where required.
- Work closely with managers and other accountants to resolve technical queries.
- Ensure jobs are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Maintain clear, comprehensive workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Identify issues, inconsistencies and opportunities for improvement before work reaches review.
- Assist with additional accounting and tax compliance work as required.
- You genuinely enjoy the technical side of accounting and tax.
- You take pride in producing accurate, clean work that stands up to review.
- You’re organised and comfortable managing multiple deadlines.
- You can work independently without needing someone looking over your shoulder.
- You communicate well with your team, even when you’re working remotely.
- You’re proactive. If something doesn’t look right, you investigate it rather than simply passing it on.
- You want to be part of a growing firm where good people are trusted to get on with the job.
- A tertiary accounting qualification.
- Completed or currently completing CA/CPA.
- Strong experience working within an Australian public practice accounting firm.
- Solid experience preparing financial statements and tax returns.
- Excellent knowledge of Australian taxation legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience across companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals.
- Experience with Xero and/or MYOB and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
- The ability to work autonomously in a remote environment while remaining connected with the wider team.
We’re financial people with entrepreneurial spirit.
At Carbon, our mission is to empower our Carbonites, Clients and Communities. For our Carbonites, that means helping people build careers that align with their own goals rather than expecting everyone to follow exactly the same path.
You’ll join a progressive financial services firm that values good people, great work and finding better ways of doing things.
And because this is a remote role, we’re less interested in where your desk is and more interested in the quality of work that comes from it.
Great, we’d love to hear from you.
The skills and experience above are important, but that doesn’t mean you need to tick every single box before applying. If you have strong Australian public practice experience, love compliance work and think Carbon could be the right next move for you, we’d like to hear from you.
At Carbon, we know we’re at our best when we look out for one another; prioritise respect, fairness, development and wellbeing; foster an inclusive culture and embrace diversity in all forms.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment regardless of their background, experience, identity, ability or thinking style. If you need assistance or an accommodation during the application process for accessibility reasons, this is available upon request.
