Senior Technical Engineer

Role Description This is a part-time remote role for a Senior Technical Engineer. In this position, the Senior Technical Engineer will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend and frontend systems that power Word Daily Hack’s digital experiences. Day-to-day responsibilities include architecting technical solutions, reviewing and improving existing code, implementing new features, optimizing performance, and ensuring reliability and security of the platform. The role also involves collaborating with product and content teams to translate requirements into clear technical specifications, guiding less-experienced engineers, and contributing to technical documentation and best practices. The Senior Technical Engineer is expected to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and participate in remote meetings and code reviews.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering skills, including experience with one or more modern programming languages (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Go, or similar) and familiarity with software design patterns.
• Experience with web application development, including frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or similar) and backend frameworks or services (e.g., Node.js, Django, or comparable technologies).
• Proficiency in cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices, such as deploying and monitoring applications on platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, and working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of databases and data management, including experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, query optimization, and data modeling.
• Understanding of security, performance, and scalability best practices for online platforms, including handling authentication, authorization, and data protection.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and mentor other engineers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; prior experience in a senior or lead engineering role is highly beneficial.
