ZOVU | Fully Remote | 5+ Years Experience | Equity Only
About ZOVU
Restaurants have enough on their plate. Their software should make life easier.
At ZOVU, we're building the Operating System for the modern restaurant — one connected platform bringing together Point of Sale, reservations, loyalty, staff management, analytics, and customer experiences.
Our ambition is to replace fragmented, complicated restaurant software with something powerful, intuitive, and beautifully designed.
We're an early-stage, fully remote startup building the foundation of a product we believe can reshape how restaurants operate.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior UI/UX Product Designer with at least 5 years of professional design experience who can turn complex workflows into beautifully simple experiences.
This is a hands-on role for someone with exceptional visual taste, strong product thinking, and the confidence to take ownership of major parts of our platform.
At ZOVU, we place enormous importance on visual quality. We believe the best interfaces feel calm, spacious, clean, and effortless to use.
Whitespace is a fundamental part of our design philosophy. We value generous spacing, excellent typography, precise alignment, strong visual hierarchy, subtle interactions, and consistency across every screen.
We want someone who understands that great design is often about what you choose to leave out.
You'll work closely with our founders, Head of Product Design, and engineering team to shape how ZOVU looks, feels, and functions.
We're not looking for someone who only creates wireframes. We want someone who can take an idea from an early concept to a polished, development-ready product.
What You'll Do
- Design beautiful, high-fidelity interfaces for ZOVU's web and mobile products.
- Create intuitive workflows for POS, reservations, restaurant dashboards, loyalty, and staff operations.
- Apply generous whitespace, thoughtful typography, consistent spacing, and clear visual hierarchy across the product.
- Simplify complex screens without sacrificing important functionality.
- Create elegant, minimal interfaces that feel consistent, modern, and easy to navigate.
- Build and maintain a scalable Figma design system using reusable components, variables, variants, and Auto Layout.
- Establish consistent spacing systems, typography scales, colors, and interaction patterns.
- Design complete product flows, including loading, empty, error, success, and confirmation states.
- Collaborate directly with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately.
- Improve designs through feedback, usability testing, and iteration.
- Take ownership of major product experiences from concept through developer handoff.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design, product design, or digital interface design.
- An exceptional portfolio demonstrating clean, minimal, beautifully executed interfaces.
- Advanced Figma expertise, including design systems, reusable components, variables, Auto Layout, and interactive prototypes.
- Strong experience designing complex SaaS applications, dashboards, or multi-step workflows.
- Excellent understanding of whitespace, typography, visual hierarchy, alignment, spacing, and layout composition.
- Ability to create visually sophisticated interfaces without unnecessary visual clutter.
- Strong understanding of interaction design, usability, accessibility, and responsive design.
- Experience designing complete web and mobile experiences.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into simple, intuitive interfaces.
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams and preparing production-ready design handoffs.
- Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and take responsibility for design decisions.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to refine designs until they meet a high visual standard.
Bonus Points
- Experience designing POS systems, restaurant technology, fintech, or enterprise SaaS.
- Experience designing connected web and mobile ecosystems.
- Familiarity with frontend development and technical implementation constraints.
- Experience building products from zero to one.
- Previous startup or founding designer experience.
- Experience maintaining large-scale design systems across multiple products.
Our Design Philosophy
We believe powerful software should feel simple.
Our design language is built around five principles:
1. Generous Whitespace
We use whitespace intentionally to create breathing room, improve readability, establish hierarchy, and make complex interfaces feel calm and organized.
2. Minimalism Without Compromise
Every element should have a purpose. We avoid unnecessary decoration, excessive colors, crowded layouts, and confusing interactions.
3. Exceptional Typography and Spacing
Typography, alignment, proportions, and spacing are essential to the quality of our interfaces. Small details matter.
4. Consistency Across Everything
Whether someone is using a restaurant dashboard, a POS system, a reservation interface, or our customer application, everything should feel like part of one connected product.
5. Simplicity in Complex Workflows
Restaurant software can be operationally complex. Our challenge is to make even the most demanding workflows feel intuitive, efficient, and effortless.
We want designers who care as much about the space between two elements as they do about the overall screen.
Our visual direction favors clean layouts, generous whitespace, refined typography, restrained colors, subtle interactions, and pixel-level attention to detail.
Great design isn't just about making something beautiful. It's about making something complicated feel effortless.
Compensation & Commitment
This is an equity-only opportunity.
ZOVU is an early-stage startup, and this position does not currently offer a cash salary or hourly compensation.
Instead, compensation is based on an equity arrangement, with the exact allocation, vesting schedule, and conditions discussed during the selection process and documented in a formal agreement.
- Location: 100% remote
- Experience: 5+ years
- Level: Senior individual contributor
- Working hours: Flexible, with a consistent weekly commitment agreed in advance
- Compensation: Equity only — no current cash salary
- Collaboration: Founders, Head of Product Design, and engineering team
Future paid compensation is not guaranteed and would depend on the company's financial position and a separate agreement.
We're looking for someone who understands the risks and opportunities of joining an early-stage startup and wants to help build something meaningful.
Why Join ZOVU?
- Meaningful ownership: Influence the experience of an entire restaurant operating system.
- Real design challenges: Solve complex problems involving payments, operations, staff workflows, and customer experiences.
- High design standards: Help create a consistent, minimal, premium visual experience across the entire platform.
- Creative freedom: Help establish the foundation of a product's design language.
- Direct impact: Work closely with founders and engineers, with minimal bureaucracy.
- Long-term opportunity: Contribute to a product from its earliest stages and participate in its potential success through equity.
How to Apply
Please send your CV and portfolio to HR@zovuhq.com.
Include:
- Two or three of your strongest UI/UX product-design projects, preferably SaaS applications, dashboards, or complex workflows.
- A brief explanation of your personal contribution and whether each project was released or conceptual.
- Examples of your Figma design systems, components, and developer handoffs.
- Examples that demonstrate your ability to use whitespace, typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy to create clean, minimal interfaces.
- Your weekly availability and earliest possible start date.
- Confirmation that you understand this is an equity-only opportunity with no current cash compensation.
We are especially interested in finished, high-fidelity product screens that demonstrate exceptional visual quality, not just wireframes or design-process presentations.
Help us make restaurant software feel effortless.
