Job Summary:

We are seeking a relationship-driven and analytical Senior Underwriter, Financial Lines to join our growing Financial Lines team. This role is responsible for underwriting and developing a profitable portfolio of Financial Lines business, with an emphasis on Public Company D&O, Professional Liability/E&O, and Financial Institutions risks. The successful candidate will evaluate complex risks, determine appropriate coverage terms and pricing, develop strong broker relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of MSIG's Financial Lines platform. This position requires a balanced underwriting approach, combining strong technical underwriting expertise with the ability to cultivate market relationships, generate new business opportunities, and support profitable growth objectives. The ideal candidate will have experience working with key brokers in the New York marketplace and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain trusted business relationships while delivering disciplined underwriting results.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting & Risk Analysis
    • Underwrite new and renewal Financial Lines business in accordance with underwriting guidelines, authority, and profitability objectives.
    • Analyze financial statements, risk exposures, market conditions, and other relevant information to evaluate and price risks.
    • Determine appropriate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing based on underwriting analysis.
  • Broker & Client Relationship Management
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients to support profitable growth and deliver exceptional service.
    • Actively participate in broker meetings, marketing initiatives, and industry events to generate new business opportunities and enhance market presence.
    • Build and maintain a network of broker relationships that drives submission flow and supports business development objectives.
  • Portfolio Management & Collaboration
    • Contribute to portfolio profitability through disciplined underwriting, risk selection, and pricing decisions.
    • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, legal, and other internal partners to evaluate complex risks and address coverage-related matters.
    • Monitor market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting strategy and portfolio performance.
  • Professional Development
    • Maintain current knowledge of Financial Lines products, market conditions, and underwriting best practices.
    • Participate in training and development activities to enhance technical and market-facing underwriting capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree.
    • 5+ years of Financial Lines underwriting experience within a primary insurance carrier environment, preferably with Public D&O, Public Company E&O/Professional Liability, Financial Institutions, or related Financial Lines products.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and cultivate broker relationships that support new business generation and profitable growth.
    • Experience marketing to brokers and managing broker-facing relationships preferred.
    • Existing relationships within the New York Financial Lines marketplace preferred.
    • Professional designations such as CPCU, RPLU, or similar are preferred.
    • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate and price complex risks.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across brokers, clients, and internal business partners.
    • Proficiency with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Salary: The base pay range is $140,000.00 - 160,000.00. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
