Senior Underwriter - Marine Cargo

The Role

We are currently hiring for a Senior Cargo Underwriter to work in our Lloyds Marine team. The will underwrite a broad range of moderate and complex risks, applying strong technical judgement, disciplined pricing and creative solutions to deliver profitable outcomes and excellent service for our Brokers and policyholders.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Risk Assessment: Review applications and financial information for moderate and complex risks, determining acceptability in line with underwriting guidelines, standards and delegated authority.
• Pricing and Negotiation: Set appropriate pricing through financial and competitive analysis, prepare quotations and negotiate with Brokers to achieve positive and profitable outcomes.
• Broker Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships across the brokerage community, market CNA Hardy products and services, and communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally.
• Portfolio Management: Analyse the quality and quantity of risks underwritten, prepare reports for management review and escalate risks requiring special handling or authority.
• Technical Leadership and Compliance: Apply relevant legal, regulatory and compliance requirements, keep current with market and industry developments, and provide guidance to colleagues where appropriate.

What We’re Looking For:

• Underwriting Expertise: Strong knowledge of underwriting principles and insurance industry practices
• Marine Cargo Experience - knowledge of the Lloyds Marine Cargo market, products and networks.
• Sound Judgement: Proven ability to exercise independent judgement, make critical business decisions and work confidently within agreed authority levels.
• Analytical Approach: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex information, identify solutions and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Relationship Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to work effectively with internal and external business partners at all levels.
