We're looking for a Senior Unreal Engine C++ Generalist to help build our next factory game in Unreal Engine 5.
You'll work on whatever the game needs most: gameplay systems, editor tooling, UI or the build pipeline.
Our designers and artists build the game in Unreal every day, and the capabilities you expose to Blueprints decides how fast they can work.
You'll join a new game team as one of its first engineers, working closely with the Engineering Team Lead, the Game Design department and the Art team.
Your responsibilities
Build gameplay features with game design, from the first design document to release
Write editor tools and workflows for designers and artists, and keep them working as the game grows
Find and fix bugs and performance problems anywhere in the codebase
Keep the build, test and review process healthy
Give technical input while designs are still being shaped
Improve the team’s knowledge of Unreal Engine specific quirks, tools, and features
Assignment
About you
You will likely have:
Professional C++ experience in Unreal Engine, shipping features or tools that designers and other engineers depended on
Worked across several areas of an Unreal Engine game, and picked up unfamiliar parts of the engine without much hand-holding
In addition, you may have:
2+ shipped game titles in Unreal Engine
Worked on, or are a fan of, factory, automation, or building games
Written Unreal editor tooling such as Slate UI, editor utility widgets or custom asset types
Owned features end to end on a small team, without a large studio around you
Worked on CI/CD, automated testing, or build tooling
If you match most of this and the problem excites you, please apply.
What we offer

A monthly personal growth allowance for courses, books or other learning material
Focus days to research or learn new skills
A yearly team gathering to meet and collaborate in person
A yearly salary review to keep your pay in line with the market, and an automatic increase of 2% per year
Next Steps & How to Apply
Please apply via our recruitment agency 8bit via https://8bitplay.com/jobs/senior-unreal-engine-generalist/
The interview process
A one-hour technical conversation with the Engineering Team Lead about work you have done
A one-hour meeting with our HR and either our Founder/CEO or our Studio Producer, depending on availability, to assess shared values, how we will work together, and culture add
A second technical round in a format we pick together, based on what we need to assess for the specific role, taking no more than 2-3 hours of your time in total
A casual, unscored conversation with a group of people you'll be working with closely to learn more about us and for the team to learn more about you
An offer call
We give you a decision within a few working days of each stage, and we aim for the whole process from the first interview to an offer to take four weeks or less.
For this role:
The first technical conversation covers features and tools you've built
For the second technical round, we decide together on one of:
A walkthrough of a feature you built, in code you are able to show us
A take-home code review (you should not need more than two hours), with your feedback then presented in real time
A deep dive into an “interesting” piece of Unreal Engine, where you show how it works, what you’ve seen go wrong, and how you would utilise it better next time
We are happy to discuss any requested accommodation to the above process.
