What is the role?
Howden is seeking a Senior Vice President – Nuclear Energy Leader to direct and grow its nuclear energy insurance and risk practice in North America. This role carries overall accountability for the performance, client relationships, and market positioning of Howden's nuclear energy specialty within its broking and risk advisory operations, acting as the senior-most representative for this specialty within the region. The successful candidate will combine deep knowledge of nuclear liability and property insurance markets with executive-level client advisory, business development, and leadership capability.
What will you be doing?
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the strategic direction for Howden's nuclear energy insurance and risk practice across North America.
- Identify and prioritize market opportunities across nuclear liability, property, and specialty insurance segments serving utilities, operators, and nuclear-adjacent industries.
- Represent Howden in industry associations, regulatory forums, and client-facing events related to nuclear energy risk and insurance.
Client and Business Development
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with utilities, nuclear plant operators, nuclear pools, and regulatory bodies.
- Lead the development of proposals, placements, and client engagements for nuclear-related insurance and risk advisory services.
- Drive revenue growth and expand Howden's footprint within the nuclear energy insurance vertical.
Risk and Regulatory Oversight
- Provide senior-level guidance on risk, coverage, and compliance matters specific to nuclear energy liability, including applicable Price-Anderson Act, NRC, and DOE requirements as they relate to insurance and indemnification.
- Oversee the quality and technical integrity of nuclear-sector placements and advisory work delivered by Howden teams.
- Stay current on emerging nuclear technologies, policy developments, and insurance market conditions to inform Howden's offerings.
Team Leadership
- Build, mentor, and manage a team of nuclear sector specialists, client advisors, and broking professionals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other Howden business units to deliver integrated risk solutions to nuclear clients.
- Establish performance metrics and accountability structures for the nuclear energy practice.
What are we looking for?
- Significant senior-level experience in nuclear energy insurance or risk broking, including direct exposure to nuclear liability, property, or specialty insurance placements.
- Demonstrated track record of business development and P&L responsibility within insurance broking, risk advisory, or related financial services.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. nuclear regulatory and liability frameworks (Price-Anderson Act, NRC requirements, and related compliance considerations) as they affect insurance and risk placement.
- Established network of relationships within the nuclear energy industry, including utilities, operators, nuclear pools, and regulatory contacts.
- Proven executive leadership experience, including building and managing client-facing teams.
- Relevant insurance or risk management credentials (e.g., CPCU, ARM) preferred; bachelor's degree required.
- This is a fully remote role, with travel as required to serve clients and support regional operations.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected base salary range for this role is $200,000 - $300,000; actual base salary will be determined based on factors including candidate experience and work location. This role is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
In addition to a competitive base salary, employees are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus. Howden also offers a variety of benefits and programs, subject to eligibility, including:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including healthcare savings and reimbursement accounts
- 401(k) retirement plan
