Advantage Orientation is the company's cloud-based solution currently deployed by over 400 higher education institutions in three countries. The platform invites engagement with interactive and media-rich content, transforming enrollment into an onboarding experience for students and staff. Advantage Design Group provides customized creative and technical services, including content development, branded interface design, video production, advanced programming, and unlimited training. The platform also features a robust administrative panel for managing content and tracking, monitoring, and analyzing user data.
About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Team Lead who enjoys helping engineers do their best work and still wants to build software. You will join as a Team Lead from day one, spending about 70% of your time on hands-on C# and .NET development and 30% coaching the team and guiding delivery. As the team grows, you will have room to take on more leadership responsibilities.
You will help guide the team's growth by developing engineers, establishing effective code review standards, and improving how the team plans and delivers its work. The role offers a clear path to dedicated management while allowing you to remain hands-on with technical work.
Why Jacksonville?
Grow your career at Advantage and make coastal Northeast Florida home. Jacksonville offers 22 miles of beaches, the nation's largest urban park system, the St. Johns River and a creative food and arts scene. Florida also has no personal state income tax, which means more of your paycheck stays with you.
What You Do
- Write and ship production code in C# and .NET, working across SQL Server, front-end development, integrations, and ADG’s content platform.
- Coach engineers through regular feedback, development conversations, and code reviews that help them improve.
- Help the team estimate work, manage capacity, and deliver on its commitments.
- Work with colleagues across the business to understand priorities and solve problems before they slow the team down.
- Contribute to engineering standards and help shape how the team works as it grows.
Required Experience
- At least six years of professional C# and .NET development experience, including recent hands-on production coding.
- Experience guiding other engineers through feedback, mentoring, or technical leadership.
- Working knowledge of SQL Server, front-end development, and system integrations.
- Ability to plan technical work, make sound decisions, and communicate clearly with the people affected by those decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field preferred. In lieu of a degree, candidates with at least six years of progressively responsible software development experience demonstrating the technical expertise, mentoring abilities, and team leadership capabilities required for this role will be considered.
How You Work
You will be leading a growing team while still contributing code. We’re looking for someone who can:
- Meet an engineer where they are, give candid and useful feedback, and make the time to help them grow.
- Explain technical decisions to engineers and colleagues outside engineering, then listen when they raise a concern or a different idea.
- Look for the cause behind delivery problems, ask good questions, and improve the process with the team.
Preferred Experience
- Experience leading a small engineering team or serving as a player-coach.
- Experience improving code review, estimation, or delivery practices.
- Experience with content platforms and client-facing integrations.
- Interest in growing into a dedicated engineering management role.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary is $120,000–$150,000, depending on experience. Benefits include a 401(k) match, profit sharing, health, dental and vision coverage, paid vacation, flex time, gym membership, and company-funded training.
Work Location
This full-time role is based in Jacksonville, Florida, and begins onsite so you can work closely with the team while learning about our platform and clients. Once you're established in the role, the schedule moves to hybrid, with two remote days per week.
