Company Description SmarShip Management, is a boutique ship broking and commercial management house, providing end to end operational and commercial management services for bulk carrier vessels.

Role Description The Ship Broker role at SmarShip Management LLC is a full-time remote position responsible for facilitating dry bulk cargo and vessel fixtures between charterers and shipowners. The role involves daily market monitoring, identifying and matching cargoes with suitable tonnage, preparing and circulating position lists, and maintaining an up-to-date overview of relevant trade routes and commodity flows. The Ship Broker will handle negotiations of freight rates and charter-party terms, support voyage estimates, and assist with clause drafting and review in coordination with the operations and claims teams. The role also includes maintaining strong relationships with clients and partners, providing timely market intelligence, and ensuring accurate documentation of fixtures and commercial agreements. Collaboration with operational management and chartering support teams is expected to help optimize voyages and contribute to SmarShip’s commercial performance.

Qualifications

• Strong brokerage, freight, and shipbroking management skills, with experience sourcing and matching cargoes and tonnage.
• Knowledge of trading and commodity markets, particularly within dry bulk sectors and key global trade routes.
• Understanding of international trade, charter-party structures, and basic maritime commercial law and practices.
• Ability to analyze market data, prepare voyage estimates, and support negotiations on commercial terms and freight rates.
• Effective communication, relationship management, and networking skills to maintain and grow a client and partner portfolio.
• High level of attention to detail, organization, and accuracy in documentation and contract handling.
• Proficiency with standard office and maritime brokerage tools; familiarity with shipping platforms and databases is beneficial.
• Previous experience in shipbroking, chartering, or dry bulk operations is strongly preferred; relevant maritime or business education is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage time effectively, and respond promptly in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment.
