Job Title: Shipment Tracking Specialist
Monthly Pay: $4,097 - $5,985 USD per month
Summary:
A shipment tracking request arrives, gets checked against carrier updates, and closes with a confirmed delivery status and clear notes. The Shipment Tracking Specialist focuses on shipment visibility so customers and colleagues can understand progress and respond to delays. This position sits within the operations team and works under a logistics team lead. It works with carriers, drivers, customer service colleagues, and operations coordinators to keep shipment information current. This fully remote, desk-based position offers work from home in Tennessee, United States. The role requires a 40-hour weekly commitment. Working days and shift times may vary.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review incoming shipment tracking requests through a shared queue, emails, and calls, identifying the shipment reference, requested update, and urgency before beginning checks.
- Check shipment milestones, carrier status messages, and expected arrival times in a Transportation management system such as MercuryGate, noting missing or conflicting updates.
- Verify shipment references, destinations, delivery schedules, and contact information against available shipment details before sharing status information with customers or internal colleagues.
- Contact carriers and drivers through approved channels to clarify shipment locations, missed milestones, or revised arrival estimates when system information needs confirmation.
- Record confirmed status updates, contact attempts, information sources, and next actions so the operations team can understand what happened without repeating completed checks.
- Maintain tracking summaries using a Spreadsheets and data entry tool such as Google Sheets, keeping shipment references and follow-up dates consistent with system information.
- Explain shipment progress and revised delivery expectations clearly, distinguishing confirmed carrier information from estimates and avoiding unsupported promises about arrival times.
- Follow up when updates are overdue or delivery milestones are missed, escalating unresolved delays and conflicting information to the logistics team lead.
- Confirm the final delivery status with available carrier updates, communicate the outcome, and close the tracking request with complete notes or arrange a clear handoff.
- Meet quality expectations through accurate status checks, timely turnaround, complete notes, and completed follow-up, using feedback from reviewed requests to improve tracking consistency.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- About 1-2 years of experience in shipment tracking, transportation support, or logistics coordination preferred.
- Knowledge of shipment milestones, carrier updates, delivery schedules, and common reasons for transit delays.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems and spreadsheet tools for reviewing status information and maintaining clear tracking summaries.
- Ability to compare updates from multiple sources, recognize discrepancies, and ask focused questions before communicating conclusions.
- Clear written and verbal communication for contacting carriers, drivers, customers, and operations colleagues professionally.
- Ability to prioritize active tracking requests, maintain accurate notes, and recognize when unresolved issues need a team lead's attention.
- A reliable computer, high-speed internet, and quiet private workspace, with availability for the 40-hour weekly commitment and agreed working days and shift times.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Perks & Benefits:
- Fully remote, desk-based work from home focused on shipment visibility and communication across the transportation workflow.
- Structured onboarding and training on the named transportation management and spreadsheet systems, along with shipment tracking procedures.
- Regular check-ins with the logistics team lead to review questions, discuss difficult tracking requests, and receive practical feedback.
- Opportunities to build shipment tracking, carrier communication, transportation system navigation, and delay assessment skills through daily work.
- Health coverage, paid leave, a 401(k), maternity leave, and stipends.
