Summary The Shop Director is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and profitability of the manufacturing facility specializing in the overhaul, repair, refurbishment, and testing of heavy industrial gas turbine components and power plant equipment. Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for all manufacturing operations while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and financial performance. Accountable for achieving production objectives, managing the facility's profit and loss (P&L), optimizing resources, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring on-time delivery of customer commitments. Lead cross-functional teams including production, planning, quality, supply chain, inventory management, engineering, maintenance, and EHS. Primary Duties Safety Leadership Champion a zero-incident safety culture across all shop operations. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, procedures, and company policies. Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks. Drive continuous improvement in safety performance and hazard mitigation. Operational Leadership Lead all manufacturing operations to safely deliver high-quality overhaul and repair services for heavy industrial gas turbine power plant equipment. Develop and execute production plans to meet customer schedules, capacity requirements, and financial objectives. Establish daily, weekly, and monthly production priorities to maximize throughput and operational efficiency. Drive operational excellence through Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. Ensure compliance with company policies, customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Financial – P&L Management Own the facility's profit and loss performance. Develop and manage annual operating budgets and capital expenditure plans. Monitor labor productivity, manufacturing costs, material utilization, and overhead expenses. Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and delivery performance. Analyze operational metrics and implement corrective actions to achieve financial targets. Production Planning & Resource Management Direct production planning and scheduling activities to optimize capacity and workflow. Balance manpower, equipment, tooling, and facility resources to meet customer demand. Forecast resource requirements and develop staffing plans to support business growth. Coordinate maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability and reliability. Team Leadership & Development Lead, coach, and develop a multi-disciplinary team including technicians, supervisors, planners, and quality personnel. Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across the organization. Drive workforce engagement, training, and skills development. Support workforce planning, hiring, and succession planning. Supply Chain & Inventory Management Lead supply chain operations to ensure material availability and uninterrupted production. Optimize inventory levels while maintaining high service levels and minimizing working capital. Oversee procurement coordination, material planning, warehouse operations, and logistics. Maintain inventory accuracy through effective controls and cycle counting programs. Partner with suppliers to improve quality, delivery performance, and cost competitiveness. Quality Management Foster a culture of quality throughout the organization. Ensure compliance with all quality management systems, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards. Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues. Monitor quality metrics and implement preventive measures to reduce defects and rework. Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance process capability and product reliability. Safety & Environmental Leadership Promote a zero-incident safety culture throughout the facility. Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations. Lead safety initiatives, risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective actions. Drive employee engagement in safety programs and continuous improvement activities. Customer Satisfaction Ensure customer commitments are consistently met or exceeded. Partner with commercial, project management, and engineering teams to align production with customer expectations. Resolve operational issues impacting customer delivery or quality. Support customer audits, visits, and business reviews. Customer relationship management Leadership & People Development Performance management and coaching to supervisors and department managers. Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Establish clear performance expectations and provide regular coaching and development. Support succession planning and talent development initiatives. Promote employee engagement and effective communication across all functions. Performance & Business Accountability Accountable for achieving the facility's operational and financial performance objectives through disciplined execution and continuous improvement. The role is expected to consistently meet or exceed established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including: Safety: Achieve zero recordable injuries and maintain full compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements. Quality: Meet or exceed first-pass yield, customer quality, warranty, and defect rate targets while minimizing rework and scrap. Cost: Deliver facility financial objectives by meeting budgeted labor productivity, manufacturing cost, material cost, inventory, and overall P&L targets. On-Time Delivery (OTD): Consistently achieve customer delivery commitments through effective production planning, schedule adherence, and resource management. Working Relationship The Shop Director reports to the Operations Director / Service Center Leader. Works with Engineered Performance Management. Compensation The initial compensation will range from $184,300 to $211,950 depending on experience. Job Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, operations management, business, or related technical field from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent. Preferred Education: Master’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, operations management, business, or related technical field from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent. Years of Experience: 10 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, including management of industrial repair, overhaul, or heavy manufacturing operations. Experience managing P&L responsibility within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional teams in a high-performance manufacturing environment. Preferred Experience: Experience with gas turbine overhaul and refurbishment processes. Project Management experience. Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies. Strong understanding of inspection methods, NDE techniques, and quality systems. Licenses/Certification: Software/Equipment Knowledge: Experience with heavy industrial equipment, rotating machinery, gas turbines, power generation equipment, or similar industries (preferred) ERP/MRP systems and production planning tools. (preferred) Other Considerations: Strong background in production planning, supply chain management, inventory control, quality systems, and continuous improvement. The employee may sit at a desk and use a computer workstation for long periods, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, lift/carry items weighing 25-40+ lbs., climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear. Fit for Duty All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
