This Site Engineering role within Nokia's Product Validation & Test (PV&T) R&D is responsible for developing and deploying optical test stations directly at manufacturing sites for Nokia's optical products, including coherent pluggables, TROSA, and related photonic hardware. As a full member of the PV&T engineering organization, you will serve as PV&T's working arm on the factory floor, spending substantial time setting up, debugging, and improving test stations, and driving R&D hardware, software, fixture, and procedure changes into manufacturing teams. This is an R&D position, not a CM test technician, supply chain/operations, or pure program management role, focusing specifically on Test Station Development (TSD) for either coherent pluggable and/or TROSA stations; depth in one of these station families, combined with TSD skills, is sufficient.
NILightpath
- Design, bring up, debug, and improve optical test stations for performance, reliability, and production readiness.
- Integrate test stations into factory test flows, collaborating with manufacturing and CM teams.
- Analyze station data to inform design improvements and test protocol enhancements.
- Drive the implementation of R&D changes (hardware, software, procedures) into manufacturing.
- Develop and maintain accurate and repeatable test protocols, addressing compliance and safety.
- Represent PV&T at manufacturing sites, mentoring others and resolving station issues.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Physics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in developing optical and/or electrical test stations or Automated Test Equipment (ATE).
- Working knowledge of optical measurement principles and how test hardware/software functions.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing environment and willingness to travel regularly to sites in Thailand and Malaysia.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across hardware, software, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues.
- Experience with coherent pluggable / PIC test-station or ATE development (or).
- Experience with TROSA / photonic-assembly test-station or ATE development.
- Familiarity with electrical design, simulation, or schematic/layout support for test hardware.
- Experience with fixture, thermal, or PCB work, including RF and low-frequency signals.
- Proficiency in source control and software-driven test infrastructure (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).
