As Affinity Water's Smart Metering Programme continues to expand, we're looking for a Smart Metering Field Investigator to help ensure our smart meter network is operating effectively across our region.
This is a hands-on, field-based role where you'll investigate and resolve smart meter connectivity and performance issues. Combining technical troubleshooting, data analysis and site visits, you'll play a key part in helping us deliver one of the UK's largest smart metering programmes. Working closely with internal teams, delivery partners and network providers, you'll identify the root cause of issues, carry out technical interventions and ensure meters are installed, configured and communicating correctly.
No two days will be the same, one day you could be reviewing system data to identify connectivity issues, and the next you could be out in the field testing equipment, carrying out repairs or supporting remedial works.
What You'll Be Doing:
Investigating smart meters that have stopped communicating or are underperforming.
Using multiple systems to diagnose faults and identify root causes.
Visiting customer properties to inspect meter installations and assess site conditions.
Carrying out technical interventions such as commissioning, configuring, repairing or replacing smart metering equipment.
Working with network providers and delivery partners to resolve connectivity issues.
Capturing accurate technical information, photographs and investigation records.
Identifying recurring issues and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintaining high standards of health, safety and compliance at all times.
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone with experience in a technical, field-based role who enjoys problem solving and takes pride in delivering high-quality work.
You'll also have:
Experience within utilities, smart metering, telecommunications or a similar environment.
Experience investigating connectivity, telemetry or communication issues.
Knowledge of smart metering technology or networked devices.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Experience using operational or work management systems.
Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
A practical, hands-on approach to technical problem solving.
A full UK driving licence.
NRSWA Operative or Supervisor qualification and Streetworks Signing, Lighting and Guarding (SLG).
Working Arrangements
This is a field-based role covering the Central region, with responsibility for managing your own workload and planning site visits. You'll have the flexibility to work from home or the office one day per week, with the remainder of your time focused on field investigations and operational activities.
Advert closes Friday 13th November
