Is this job info correct?

Social Media Specialist Portland, OR 97202 Apply Overview Salary Range $24.00 - $27.88 Hourly Position Type Full Time Apply Description Portland Leather Goods has built a passionate, highly engaged online community that has become a huge part of who we are. We’re looking for a Social Media Specialist who genuinely loves the internet, enjoys talking to people online, and understands that great community-building is about much more than answering customer-service questions. The primary focus of this role is community and engagement across Portland Leather’s social channels and private communities, including Portland Leather Insiders. But this is not a narrowly defined community-management position. We believe the strongest social teams are cross-functional, and our Social Media Specialists are encouraged to grow across community, content, publishing, campaigns, retail, and other areas of social. One day you might be chatting with customers in Insiders, responding to comments and DMs, finding amazing UGC, or helping hype a new product launch. Next, you might build a Story, edit a Reel, help with a giveaway, capture content at a local store, or jump into a campaign that needs an extra set of hands. Professional social media experience is valuable, but we’re also interested in people who have developed strong internet instincts in other ways. Maybe you moderate a Discord, run a fandom account, spend far too much time on Reddit, make TikToks for fun, manage an online community, work in retail, or are simply extremely good at communicating with people digitally. If you’re ready to dive in, build real relationships, make an impact, and have fun doing it, we want to hear from you! This is a full-time position with a five-day workweek. Regular availability on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is required . The remaining two workdays will be determined based on team coverage, business needs, and scheduling considerations. What You’ll Do Community & Engagement Engage with customers across Portland Leather Insiders, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other social platforms. Write community posts, announcements, comments, replies, and conversational social copy. Build genuine relationships with highly engaged customers and community members. Help maintain Portland Leather’s recognizable community personality, humor, and culture. Represent the brand through established community and anonymous admin personas when appropriate. Identify great customer stories, UGC, trends, conversations, and opportunities worth sharing with the broader team. Support giveaways, surprise-and-delight moments, launches, community activations, and special campaigns. Monitor community sentiment and flag emerging questions, issues, or opportunities. Social Inbox & Customer Experience Support comments and direct messages through Nectar Social. Review and refine AI-assisted responses while making sure every interaction remains accurate, human, and true to Portland Leather’s voice. Triage customer conversations and connect customers with the appropriate team when additional support is needed. Know when to respond, when to ask questions, when to escalate, and when not to engage. Help maintain a fast, thoughtful, and welcoming social customer experience. Monitor launches, promotions, partnerships, and other high-volume social moments. Content & Social Support Create simple social-first photo and video content as needed. Write captions, Stories, and other platform-native social copy. Edit short-form video using CapCut or similar tools. Help source, organize, and identify strong UGC. Support publishing, product launches, campaigns, giveaways, partnerships, and real-time social activity. Contribute ideas based on customer conversations, trends, pop culture, and what you’re seeing online. Capture content from local Portland Leather stores, events, launches, or activations when relevant. Step into other areas of social media when the team needs additional support. Team Collaboration & Coverage Work closely with Social Media leadership and other members of the Marketing team. Participate in team planning, brainstorming, and strategy conversations. Communicate clearly about unresolved issues, emerging conversations, and noteworthy community activity. Provide strong handoffs so the broader team has context around weekend and off-hour activity. Take ownership of assigned work and follow through reliably. Cross-train across core social media functions to support team flexibility. Contribute to evolving workflows, processes, and team best practices. Schedule & Work Style This is a full-time position with a five-day workweek. Regular availability on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is required . The remaining two workdays will be determined based on team coverage, business needs, and scheduling considerations. Because social media doesn’t operate Monday through Friday from 9 to 5, occasional campaign, launch, holiday, event, or non-traditional-hour coverage may be required. This is a remote position open to candidates located within reasonable commuting distance of a Portland Leather retail or outlet location. The role may include in-person support at a local store as business needs arise. Being located near a Portland Leather store provides opportunities for product access, local content creation, retail activations, events, launches, and firsthand connection with Portland Leather customers. Qualifications Qualifications Why We Want You 1–3 years of relevant experience is preferred. Professional social media experience is welcome but not required for candidates who can demonstrate strong digital-community experience in other ways. Excellent written communication skills and strong attention to detail. You genuinely enjoy talking to people online and building relationships through digital platforms. You understand internet culture, social media behavior, memes, pop culture, and how people actually communicate online. You can write naturally in a conversational, personality-driven brand voice. You have high emotional intelligence and know how to make people feel heard and valued. You have strong judgment and can recognize when something should be handled directly, escalated, or left alone. You’re comfortable being conversational, playful, and funny without losing professionalism. You’re organized, dependable, curious, adaptable, and proactive. You’re comfortable working independently while staying connected to a larger team. You’re comfortable learning and using AI and new social tools while still applying your own judgment. You’re willing to move between community, content, customer engagement, and other social needs based on team priorities. You are able to consistently work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You are able to work remotely while remaining within reasonable commuting distance of a Portland Leather retail or outlet location. Bonus Points If You Have professional social media or community-management experience. Have moderated or administered a Facebook Group, Discord community, subreddit, fandom, forum, or similar online space. Spend enough time online that internet culture feels intuitive to you. Have retail, hospitality, customer-service, or other customer-facing experience. Already know Portland Leather or regularly interact with the brand or community. Have experience creating short-form video or social-first content. Know CapCut, Canva, Adobe Express, Nectar Social, or similar tools. Have ecommerce or direct-to-consumer experience. Have experience working with highly engaged customer groups, private communities, or loyalty communities. You’ll Be Great in This Role If You like the internet because you actually like the people on it. You’re a strong writer and a big communicator. You can tell when someone is joking, when someone is genuinely frustrated, when someone needs help, and when a seemingly small comment is actually telling the brand something important. You can be funny without forcing it, empathetic without sounding scripted, and independent without disappearing. You don’t mind jumping between different kinds of work. If community is quiet and there’s a Reel to edit, UGC to organize, a Story to build, a store moment to capture, or a campaign that needs help, you’re happy to switch gears. And if working weekends in exchange for having weekdays off sounds kind of fantastic, we may be looking for you. What We Can Offer You! Comprehensive Health Coverage – Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance to keep you and your family covered. 401(k) with company match – We match up to 4% to help you build your financial future. Paid time off – We want you to take time to rest, recharge, and show up at your best. Employee discount – Exclusive savings on Portland Leather products. Career Growth Opportunities – A dynamic role with room to learn, grow, and advance your career. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the Portland, Oregon metro area and be able to regularly travel to Portland-area retail locations as required by the position. About Portland Leather We have come a long way since the garage days! Portland Leather Goods was established in early 2016 by our founder Curtis Matsko. Before Portland Leather Goods, you couldn’t find a simply designed, affordable bag made from high-quality full-grain leather. Even if the aesthetic and the price were right, the leather felt and looked cheap, or worse, it wasn’t even real leather! In order to get a beautiful full-grain leather bag, you had to spend a fortune. We’re proud to make leather goods with classic appeal at a price everyone can feel good about. At Portland Leather Goods, we are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds to join our team. Portland Leather Goods participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.
