Software Developer III
Lynxspring, Inc. is seeking an experienced candidate to join our Cloud Technologies Group as a Software Developer III. The candidate will work on a variety of development projects, including supporting our own platform (E2E) and projects for existing customers.
E2E is a cloud-based software platform designed to collect, contextualize, store, analyze, and exchange data across building automation, energy, IoT, and enterprise applications. The platform integrates a variety of systems and data sources and provides the foundation for applications involving building performance, energy analytics, reporting, load management, and other data-driven services
.
This is not a narrowly defined development position. We are looking for a well-rounded developer who enjoys solving complex problems and is comfortable working across APIs, cloud infrastructure, databases, data processing, containerized applications, and occasionally front-end applications.
The successful candidate should be capable of working independently, making sound technical decisions, and taking ownership of projects from design through deployment and support. You will also collaborate with a small development team and work directly with internal stakeholders, customers, and technology partners. Lynxspring is headquartered in Lee's Summit, Missouri, and we're open to remote work for the right candidate, depending on their experience and location.
Job Duties:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software supporting the E2E platform and related applications.
- Develop scalable Python applications, services, libraries, and APIs.
- Design and integrate REST APIs and third-party services.
- Design solutions involving cloud infrastructure and AWS services.
- Develop and deploy containerized applications using Docker and related technologies.
- Work with NoSQL, time-series, and distributed data systems.
- Design data models and processing strategies for large volumes of building, energy, and IoT data.
- Analyze complex technical problems using mathematics, algorithms, and logical reasoning.
- Troubleshoot issues across application, network, database, cloud, and integration layers.
- Work with asynchronous messaging and IoT communication technologies.
- Participate in software and system architecture decisions.
- Review code and help establish sound development practices.
- Mentor less-experienced developers and provide technical leadership when appropriate.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation.
- Evaluate new technologies and determine where they can provide practical value.
- Use modern AI-assisted development tools responsibly as part of the software development lifecycle.
- Occasionally contribute to React-based front-end applications when needed.
- Communicate with customers and technology partners to understand requirements and solve integration problems.
- Understand Lynxspring’s Quality Policy and Quality Objectives and how you can contribute to them.
Technical skills:
- Python development in production software environments.
- Designing and developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
- API authentication, data validation, error handling, and integration patterns.
- AWS or comparable cloud platform experience, including deploying and operating production applications.
- Docker and containerized application development.
- Linux-based development and server environments.
- NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, DocumentDB, Cassandra, or Amazon Keyspaces.
- Data modeling and working with large or time-series datasets.
- Git and modern source-control workflows.
- Software testing, debugging, logging, and performance troubleshooting.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and algorithmic problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to understand unfamiliar systems by reading technical specifications, API documentation, and source code.
Experience That Will Set You Apart:
- MQTT and event-driven or messaging architectures.
- IoT application development.
- Redis.
- FastAPI or similar Python API frameworks.
- React and Vite.
- Apache, NGINX, or other web-server technologies.
- CI/CD and DevOps practices.
- Cybersecurity and secure software development practices.
- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Java, or C#.
- Hands-on experience with specific AWS services, such as EC2, S3, Lambda, Cognito, CloudWatch, VPC networking, IAM and cloud security concepts, and Application Load Balancers.
- AI, machine learning, or data analytics.
- Energy analytics or time-series analytics.
- Project Haystack.
- SkySpark and Axon.
- Niagara Framework.
- HVAC systems.
- Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Energy management systems.
- Utility or demand/load-management applications.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field is preferred. An associate's degree or equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- 7+ years of experience as a Software Developer.
- Experience taking significant technical ownership of projects or application components.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering production software systems.
