Software Developer – Java, TypeScript, AWS & AI-Assisted Development

Ideatory is seeking an experienced Developer Engineer with strong Java and TypeScript development skills, AWS expertise, and hands-on experience using AI coding tools to support engagements with our financial services and public sector clients.

This role combines software engineering, cloud delivery and DevOps automation. It suits an engineer who enjoys building applications, improving delivery pipelines and using AI-assisted development tools to deliver high-quality code. Experience with Claude is preferred, although experience with other AI coding tools will also be considered.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain applications and services using Java, TypeScript and JavaScript.
• Build and integrate REST APIs, microservices and event-driven solutions.
• Develop and support frontend applications using React.js, Next.js and associated technologies.
• Build, deploy and maintain applications on AWS, including EC2, S3, Lambda and CloudFront.
• Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins or comparable tooling.
• Containerise applications using Docker and support deployment and orchestration through Kubernetes.
• Apply secure development practices, including OAuth 2.0, JWT and role-based access control.
• Use Claude or other AI coding tools to assist with implementation, refactoring, automated testing, debugging and technical documentation.
• Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability and alignment with project standards.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, delivery teams and client stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions.
• Troubleshoot application, integration, deployment and cloud infrastructure issues.

Essential skills and experience

• Strong hands-on Java development experience.
• Strong TypeScript and JavaScript development skills.
• Practical AWS experience, including application deployment and support.
• Demonstrated DevOps experience across CI/CD, automation and release management.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience developing REST APIs and working with microservices.
• Hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools in software delivery, with Claude preferred.
• Experience with Git-based source control, code reviews and automated testing.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Additional Technical Skills

Experience across a selection of the following technologies will be highly regarded. Expertise in every technology is not required. These additional skills reflect the supplied technical profile.

• Frontend: React.js, Redux, Redux-Saga, Next.js, HTML5, CSS3, Tailwind CSS, Webpack, Progressive Web Apps (PWA) and AMP.
• Backend and integration: Node.js, Express, REST APIs, microservices, OAuth 2.0 and JWT.
• Data and reporting: SQL, Power BI, DAX, DirectQuery and Chart.js.
• Cloud and DevOps: AWS EC2, S3, Lambda and CloudFront; Azure; Docker; Kubernetes; GitHub Actions; Jenkins; and CI/CD.
• Architecture: Micro frontends, Module Federation, low-code platforms, event-driven architecture and role-based access control (RBAC).
• AI and automation: Claude, GPT-based tools, LLM APIs, prompt engineering, agentic workflows and AI-assisted development.

• Previous experience working in financial services or public sector environments.
