Love turning real-world problems into clean, working software? Whether you're early in your career or a seasoned senior engineer, come build systems that help labs, researchers, and instrument makers do their best work.
About Yahara:
We help scientific organizations solve hard problems and move their industries forward, from life sciences startups and CROs to the teams building lab software and scientific instruments. It's work we're proud of, and we're excited about the successes still ahead.
Join a team recognized as one of Madison Magazine's Best Places to Work, where innovation thrives and collaboration drives success. We don't just build software. We empower people and transform industries.
Important Notes about this Position:
- This is a hybrid position based out of our office in Madison, WI.
- We are unable to provide sponsorship.
The Opportunity:
You'll build and grow software for life sciences startups, CROs, lab software teams, and scientific instrument developers. We're hiring across levels, from early-career to senior, and we'll match the scope to your experience. Newer engineers grow alongside senior teammates who invest in them. Experienced engineers own features end to end and help shape the design.
Our Approach:
We build on strong engineering fundamentals: solid methodology, rigorous testing, and sound architecture. We use AI tools like Claude and Codex where they speed up delivery, while keeping critical thinking and engineering discipline at the center. We own the quality, accuracy, and understanding of the code we ship.
What You'll Do:
- Ship features that clients see and use, from first commit to live demo.
- Build across the full stack, from the database to the UI.
- Own your work end to end: understand it, build it, test it, deliver it.
- Weigh different approaches and bring a recommendation, not just a question.
- Level up the team through thoughtful code reviews, giving and getting feedback.
- Shape the sprint in grooming, planning, and retros.
- Learn your client's domain so you can ask better questions.
- Use AI-assisted tools like Claude Code every day, with a critical eye on the output.
- Deploy and run applications on AWS or Azure.
- Pick up new technologies as projects demand them.
What You'll Bring:
Experience:
- Professional software development experience, whether that's your first couple of years or more than a decade.
- A solid grasp of object-oriented programming and software design.
- Experience building web applications or services.
- Comfort working on an Agile team.
Mindset:
- Curiosity about how the systems you build fit together.
- Willingness to raise problems early instead of waiting for someone else to spot them.
- Clear, professional communication with teammates and clients.
- Drive to keep learning, especially as AI-assisted development evolves.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with life sciences organizations, lab systems, or regulated scientific software.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, FDA, or GxP requirements.
- AWS or Azure certifications.
- Experience leading a small project or mentoring other engineers.
Core Technologies (in no particular order):
- Microsoft .NET
- JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks (React or similar)
- Node.js
- Python with frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask
- Postgres, SQL Server, or other relational databases
- Cloud platforms: Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services
- Web service and API development
- Containerization (Docker or Kubernetes)
