Software Engineer

Ferryscanner is an online search and booking engine that helps people find affordable ferry tickets to exciting destinations around the world. We're looking for a mid-level Software Engineer who is curious, collaborative, and excited to help shape the future of our platform. You will join one of our cross-functional Scrum teams, working closely with Product Owners and fellow Software Engineers to develop scalable, reliable, and customer-centric solutions. Responsibilities Develop and maintain application features that improve the customer experience Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues Collaborate with your Scrum team to deliver business value incrementally Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices Continuously improve application performance, scalability, and reliability Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and learning Actively contribute ideas to improve our products, engineering processes, and team effectiveness Qualifications, skills & knowledge Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field 4+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, PHP or Java Developer, or similar role Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming principles Experience developing web applications using PHP or Java and at least one modern framework (Laravel, Symfony, Zend, or similar) Experience designing and consuming REST APIs Good understanding of relational databases such as MariaDB or MySQL Experience writing automated tests (PHPUnit or similar) Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows Comfortable working with Agile methodologies and Scrum teams Comfortable leveraging AI-assisted development tools as part of your daily workflow Excellent command of English, both written and spoke Nice to have Experience with Redis, MongoDB, or other NoSQL databases Experience working in Linux/Unix environments Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines Experience with Docker or containerized applications Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS Experience with Python or Java Experience building AI-powered features, integrating LLM APIs, or experimenting with AI workflows Key competencies Growth mindset and passion for continuous learning Curiosity about emerging technologies, especially AI and modern software engineering practices Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ownership mentality and accountability Team player with excellent communication skills Attention to detail and commitment to code quality Adaptability in a fast-paced product environment Customer-first mindset We offer Opportunity to build products used by millions of travellers worldwide Collaborative engineering culture focused on learning and continuous improvement International team with exposure to modern software engineering and AI technologies Private medical insurance Hybrid working model with flexibility to work remotely Additional annual leave days
