DAS Labs is a 12-year enterprise AI engineering firm based in Rancho Cucamonga, California. We build AI systems for medical, surgical, and home-healthcare clients, and we run our own products: AskVicky, an AI-powered operational discovery platform, and ClawBoss, a governance engine that keeps AI agents deterministic and auditable.

Our core engineering belief is simple: deterministic scaffolding governs probabilistic AI. The language model is never the system. The system is the APIs, the state machines, the validation layers, and the tests that surround it. That is the work this role does.

The role

You will build the deterministic layer of our automation products and client systems: API integrations, workflow engines, data pipelines, and the harnesses that constrain and verify AI agents. You will read a lot of code, much of it produced by junior engineers working with coding agents, and you will be expected to catch what they miss. You will help scope and architect new work before anyone writes a line. This is not a role for someone who wants to prompt a coding agent and ship a dashboard. It is a role for someone who can look at a system, understand why it will fail, and design so it doesn't.

How we work

Small team. High trust. Nobody is waiting to tell you what to do next. If you see a problem, you write it up and propose a fix. If you are stuck for more than a couple of hours, you say so. If you ship a bug, you own it, fix it, and tell the people it affected. We use AI tools every day and expect you to, but we expect you to understand and stand behind everything that ships under your name.

What you'll do

  • Design and build integrations against third-party APIs (scheduling, EHR, CRM, messaging), handling auth, retries, idempotency, rate limits, and failure modes properly.
  • Turn client operational processes into reliable automated workflows with clear state, logging, and recovery paths.
  • Review pull requests from other engineers, including agent-assisted code, and hold the line on correctness, testing, and structure.
  • Write design documents before building. Scope work, identify risks, and propose options with effort estimates.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD, containerized deployments, and the observability needed to know when something breaks before the client does.
  • Work directly with the CTO and, over time, with clients on technical questions.

Must-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Professional English fluency (C1/C2): you write clear specs, PR reviews, and status updates, and you can explain a technical tradeoff to a non-engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing other people's code as a regular job duty, not just writing your own.
  • Experience writing design documents or RFCs before implementation.
  • Strong command of at least one typed backend language (TypeScript, Go, or typed Python).
  • Deep API integration experience: OAuth and token flows, webhooks, retry and backoff, idempotency, error handling.
  • SQL and relational schema design.
  • Docker, Linux, and CI/CD (GitHub Actions or equivalent).
  • Testing discipline: unit and integration tests as a habit, not a chore.
  • Hands-on use of coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) and the judgment to catch when their output is wrong.
  • Comfortable working asynchronously on a remote team: written communication, proactive updates, ownership of outcomes.

Bonus

  • Mobile development: Android (Kotlin) and/or iOS (Swift).
  • Experience handling regulated data (HIPAA or similar): secrets management, access control, audit trails.
  • Observability tooling: structured logging, tracing, alerting.
  • Extra bonus
  • Computer vision or augmented reality development, especially on mobile or head-mounted displays.
  • Extra extra bonus
  • Traditional machine learning experience.
  • Building with LLM APIs and agents: structured outputs, tool calling, evals, harness and guardrail design.

Benefits:

  • Contactor: $ 2,500 usd per month.
  • Year-end Bonus
  • 100% remote full-time collaboration
  • Schedule Mon-Fri 9am-6pm Pacific Time (PST) working hours.
  • Opportunities for growth and development.

Requirements:

  • Computer/Laptop with at least 8GB RAM, an Intel i5 core processor/AMD Ryzen 5 Processor and up.
  • Internet speed of at least 100MBPS
  • Headset with an extended mic that has noise cancellation and a webcam
  • Battery back up for computer
  • Quiet, dedicated workspace at home
